They are one of the lasses partners. They certainly let then use the ground, AOL and provide strips. They probably provide transport too.

Don't mind that so much - not really material in the scheme of things.... Just transfer money, wages, time of our very busy DoF - would be a bit pissed off if that went on safc ladies tbh

The men could quite happily throw a million at the lasses each season and it wouldn't have much impact on the men's team I reckon.

I think men's teams across the top league are aiming towards a sort of Man City model where they have small stadiums and make the under 21s a bigger part of the club with fan base etc. This in turn will allow the women to play at such places. Maybe Hetton could be improved.

Kelly Smith is gutted we're up their after her comments about Abbey Holmes.

They are a fully integrated part of SAFC.....some of the lasses are on full time contracts........it's not us and them anymore, they are wholeheartedly part of the club.

Sunderland's last two home attendances have been 955 ( v Notts County ) and 1004 ( v Chelsea )........these are good in comparison to others -

Sunderland's win at Bristol on Saturday was watched by 331, Arsenal v Notts County 804, Birmingham v Liverpool 778.......even the Everton v Liverpool derby in midweek only pulled an attendance of 1073.............so personally I think the lasses are doing bloody well attendance wise.

Yes, they have been spending money on it....including a fancy underground sprinkler system.......I suspect there is more to follow.....money no object !!!

Yeah I heard some of the lasses were full-time I just didn't realise the men were playing such. Big role. Sury if we do really well more of the lasses deserve to be given pro contracts. Most importantly we need to keep Mead.

holmes is class . can't wait to see her boot another glamourpuss into the stands

you can be sure if we do win the title, the media will only mention meado as the reason, and then try to persuade her to move on to bigger things.

she could play in the usa leagues tbf

that would piss off the big 4 at least :)

when is the bbc show on? not seen owt since the wc

She's the fast a simple over the top works and the so called big names can't handle it. She is also class at holding it up and has skill. She's basically the female Super Kev.

Show is on 2 at 23.20.

two of our goals from the weekend are already on here http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/33677495

The club get a grant from the FA for being part of the WSL which I assume comes from the sponsorship agreements and SAFC are required to match that I believe as part of the license. A fair few of the team now train full time at the AOL and are paid by the club.

To be fair, for the small amount the club is putting in they are getting far better value and publicity that the millions we waste on the men's side;)

She's still got another year at Uni, So I reckon she will be with Sunderland at least until the end of next season. If we can win the league why would she move? We should be more confident and start putting offers in for Chelsea and City's best players.

If we can have parity in wages with the big teams then surely we can hope to get some ex Sunderland lasses back.

It´s a bit of a mystery how the wages work for womens teams.. Some players have a mini-wage guaranteed by the FA I was told.
At City I heard that Steph Houghton earns £60k p.a playing for City and England but not sure how the percentages work out

I heard this too but I also heard some lasses playing are on £25 quid a week, possibly on the same programme. The fact some are full time and some are part time will certainly have a big impact on how much people are paid.

But anyway.. If SAFC spent say a million on wages they would absolutely outspend any other WSL club I´m sure, perhaps it might be worth it as a P.R project even.

I was just throwing about a figure that would be mostly insignificant to the men's team. In reality I don't see them doing this ever and I do not have any idea how the money flowing (if at all) between the men and the women actually works.

No idea how it works at SAFC but at City where all sponsorships for all teams go thru CFM there is a small percentage, perhaps 1-2% going to the womens team on the global sponsorships. Team specific sponsors and matchday income add some money as well.
