Can the goalposts move

They have to move as its the coaches job on the line..TM obviously feels that the recruitment has let him down with the quality of the players brought in and football is a "do it now "not a "do it later" business ..what would you do if you have to get results consistantly but you think that a lot of the players are not ready or worse are not up to it???? Would yo just sit there ,say nowt and watch your job gan down the toilet or speak up and point the finger rightly at the recruitment............. the owners obviously think that another manager can do better than tony with the players available to them ! lets see how it plays out shall we ..with tony (with present players)and especially if we got amad in jan (perhaps thats the frustration that TM been told we wont go for amad)we would be hanging around the playoffs and thats the best we can hope for with any new manager! sadly though if there is a rush to the door by some of our better players we might struggle and finish in bottom half........... this club breaks your heart and empties your pocket on the long bumpy journey to mediocrity........... dear dear me its amazing how speakman gets away scot free every fekking time!I hope his egg nog curdles and his brandy snaps dont and his crimbo wishes come true and radcliffe comes knocking on his door dressed as santa with a job offer!the sooner he feks off he better!
I had to stop reading as those silly dots everywhere hurt my eyes, sorry……………….
Probably because he changed the y style of play by incorporating Onions into a CB thus bringing/playing the ball out of a defensive set up.. Sadly it hasn't worked in weeks, just look how Huddersfield close Onions down ,time and time again.
I carrot take thís seriously

Mowbray was never who they wanted there long term it's that simple. He overachieved meaning they couldn't get rid, you don't sack a manager who's taken a side to the playoffs. Soon as they seen a chance to upgrade they've taken it
My take also. I think they were happy with Neil, and got sideswiped when he left, so they turned to Mowbray to get through to the end of the season when they could get their own man in. All was going well until the last 6 weeks when out of nowhere we went on a good run, everyone else went on shit runs, and we made the playoffs. That meant they couldn’t get rid immediately, but Mowbray found out they had already been looking at replacements, and from then on, it was only a matter of time - unless he overachieved again, which he hasn’t.

He was always head coach. He didn't seem to know how to change things and played favourites too often. Yes he over achieved last season, but he was under achieving this season.
Finishing 6th is over achieving, being 3 pts off 6th is under achieving?
What are your expectations?

The title is a bit misleading but what I’m saying here is when Mowbray was interviewed for the manager vacancy after Alex Neil left I would imagine for sure the role would have been explained fully and that I’m sure would include transfer policy, style of play etc. So from Mowbray part he played these lads in a certain way and formation with the tactics to suit. The club have stuck with him with that. So why was his position under scrutiny over the summer after achieving so much, and also why did Mowbray have a go at the board. Something not right here.

Victim of his own success I'm afraid

Did excellent last season. Not so good this season

People can point to the board but he was all over the shop in his press conferences

Strikers banging them in looking sharp. 2 weeks later strikers not ready yet. Well you said they were a fortnight ago Tony?

His substitutions are baffling. No plan b. Stubbornness to mix it up.

If the club were happy to be 9th then I'd question why he has gone. Fans saying the club will pick the cheap option but they've sacked a manager because they want better. If the board were happy to stagnate Mowbray wouldn't have been sacked

I’m guessing Mowbray was trying to save the board from themselves.
The board though obviously think their theories can still take us a bit further down the road. Mowbray doesn’t. Which makes me believe promotion isn’t the be all and end all for another 18 months minimum. Hence Uncle Tones quotes about “taking longer” or similar.
.. I agree, though saying we were aiming for top two this season was sending mixed messages .. I think they got a little carried away with the success ..

Was that an actual quote? I thought they’d only mentioned “improvement”. That’d be Promotion or 3, 4, 5 and going out in semis or 3,4,5,6 and losing in final.

TBH I think it was a convenience appointment on both sides, I think we took him on because he was already hanging around the club and out of a job, Mowbray took the job because it was local and he didn't have to up sticks and move..

If Stoke had finished 6th last season and were 3 points off the playoffs now , I would have donated my left bollock tbh
You could do worse than sack AN and get TM but I suspect you know that better than moi

Would love Barnsey to ask one of the hierarchy “ did you tell TM there would be no incomings in January “ ?
Communication in business is everything-especially when a fan base (in the main) seems disappointed in the way he has been treat -need more than a short statement -gives the new manager a massive task without any detailed explanation as to why he’s gone.
We will all be watching the players closely at the weekend to see how they respond to his departure?

Sunderland also knew that his contract a rolling contract in September had no choice to pay up due to his outstanding performance last year after that date TM was still at odds with Speakman and working relationship slowly forced Sunderland’s hand…

Without having someone in place already? Bad management that. Surely you get your new manager/coach ready to step in, then pull the trigger so you have a smooth transition.
Can only assume they’ve been alerted to an opportunity imo. It would look pretty poor if they were going behind Mowbray’s back and talking to replacements before he’d even gone.

I can’t believe people don’t understand this.

When its plainly obvious that we lack an experienced goalscorer, I think it can only be a matter of time before a managers frustrations boils over

That is true, but at the same time we have clearly forgotten how to actually play with a striker, and when we have had them on the pitch recently we haven’t been getting the ball to them when they have made the runs.

I don’t feel that the young strikers are totally to blame for their lack of goals.

Bizarre situation .. genuinely thought he’d be an absolute yes man when appointed … after all it seemed like he was being lined up for a job in the academy prior to Alex Neil f***ing off
