Campbell and Meyler

I'm not sure that we will sign anyone in January but these two coming back will be like new signings. Hopefully both regain full fitness after the injuries they've had because both were beginning to show decent form. If/when they are both back I think the only real area of concern I have is still left back (assuming we sign Elmo and Ned). Waht do you think?

For the first time in years we've got a young squad who are playing decent football and don't have to be thinking about a complete squad overhaul in the summer.

Who'd you go for (realistically) and who'd you get rid of assuming Ellis makes Bruce balance the books?

Trochowski. Get him in for £10m and make £3-4m on the loanees who are out. Tell Ellis, we need him and its the right time to spend £6m.

A creative central midfielder to unlock tight defences is the missng piece in the jigsaw

Riveros was signed to do that, I'm sure. Just needs time to get up to speed. er, like PDS

Henderson seems to be creating goals now though.

Bear with me on this;

When you redecorate one room in your house, it makes the other rooms look bad - so you want to redecorate the other room - then the other, and so on.

So sometimes I think it's that attitude I have with the team - new, better players make others seem inadequate. We will always want to improve the squad and will always find areas of 'weakness'.

Having said that I personally would only really like a really attacking left back and I'd be happy.

This squad is absolutely awesome.

So, we need a creative midfielder, a left winger and a goal-scoring midfielder.

We going for a 4-6-0 formation?

You expect them both to be back in January?

Campbell only fucked his at the end of summer. January should be too early for him surely?

Similarly Meyler will have been out for about 8 months and knee ligaments are usually a minimum of 12 months unless you have a Kenwyne Jones / Marvin Andrews type of "miracle".

This squad is absolutely awesome.

I wouldn't go that far. It's pretty good but still painfully short of real class and cutting edge in the midfield. Just look at our opponents on Monday. What we would give to have Cahill, Pienaar or Arteta.

The use of substitutes, although only brought in about 100 years ago, has caught on in the modern game and is often used effectively to change the course of a match.

I know what you mean - but it all depends against which benchmark(s) you judge. Yeah if you're comparing us to the top clubs, then I agree...

But in terms of a Sunderland squad (especially in recent years) then "awesome" is not only true - it's a fucking understatement.

Think Meyler will be back in January and Campbell before the end of the season. Personally I don't see Henderson as a creative midfielder, good ball carrier and passer but not all that creative-would love a younger Steed if there is such a thing....

Bruce and Quinn have both described Meyler's recovery as just that - Bruce expects him to be back over the Christmas period.

Well I'm comparing us to clubs that we are looking to emulate/overtake such as Everton. I don't compare our players to Man Utd and the like but Everton, Villa, Fulham etc.

Those three teams (well the first two definitely) have more creativity in their midfield, and I would like to see us catch up in that department.

hmm, canny.

Might be an indication of his attitude and work ethic to rehabilitate himself so quickly. Hope he doesn't overdo it and come back too early.
