Callum Doyle

Alese is better. Nowt wrong with Callum in a 3 but Big Tone will be going with 4.
How many times did Alese play central defence in a back 4 under Mowbray? Can’t have been many times. I can’t help but think the club see Alese as a left back rather than a central defender.

As others have said, Doyle has just had an excellent season playing in a back 4.
Not even counting Hume as well
Who’s the 6?

Batth (33 next season so will be a push to expect him to play a full season)
Ballard
O’Nein
Anderson (couldn’t get a game when we had no central defenders, would it be a fair bet to say Mowbray isn’t a fan?)
Wright
The Aussie who none of us have seen play
Alese who has played more on the left than in the middle

I’d have Doyle over all but the top 2 of those tbf. The Aussie might be better but who really knows?

We’re at the point where we need to try and move decent players on if we want to progress.

Afraid not mate, Dennis is our left back. Alese is a left sided CB, who was brought here for that reason and will prove his worth there this season, bar injurys. Ballard/Alese is the future.

Makes you wonder why he barely played in that position last season if that’s the clubs opinion.

Ballard, Alese and Cirkin missed a shit load of games through injury last season too. Another solid, experienced lad in the squad wouldn't be too bad an idea surely.

What is Alese better based on like?

He played a couple of games as centre back and got pushed out wide.
Watch him play football. He gets a run of games at CB and people will be wondering what he is doing playing in the Championship. He is way above the level our club is playing at the moment.

Personally -I would rather see our own Zac Johnson step up into the match day squad regularly
Like Callum Doyle -good player but Johnson must get a chance soon.
We’ve been v unlucky with injuries at Centre back-surely we can’t be as unlucky again ( plus we have the Australian ?)

Could Johnson maybe go to a decent league one side on loan for a year to get a season of proper football under his belt? He's effectively 2 years behind Doyle in experience. Nee idea about the Aussie lad.

I'll miss alese getting forward if we do end up playing him CB mind. Obviously cirkin has shown he is fantastic in the exact same role but aji causes all kinds of problems when he pushes high, especially from goal kicks

We've got like 7 haven't we? Injury prone or not, thats seems pretty imbalanced to me.

Batth, Ballard, Alese, Anderson, Hume, 09, Triantis and Cirkin at a pinch.

Anderson has no experience, should go on loan. Hume isn't a centre half, likewise Onien and Cirkin. Triantis is an unknown quantity.

The top 3 players we have for CH are Batth, Ballard and Alese they all missed games last season, Ballard and Alese missed loads as did Cirkin. Can't see a problem bringing another outright centre back in, rather than having Hume and Gooch trying to play there.

Tbf I had forgotten about the Aussie like

I know what you mean but remember if we are forced to play alsese or Hume there, then it takes away from full back options etc

I broadly agree but o’nien is 100% a centr back, and a good one

I can’t fathom how you can suggest he isn’t? That’s been his position for the last 3 seasons

He's done a good job there as he has everywhere he's been asked to play. But given a straight choice I'd pick Batth, Ballard and Doyle ahead of him at centre back without hesitation.
