Buying tyres

It's probably 30 years since I used Kwikfit. Our last interaction when I went in for an MOT and two rear tyres went something like this: 'Your exhaust is marginal mate, I would replace it if I were you.' 'Aye, crack on and fit a new one mate, you fitted that one at MOT time last year and it has a two year warranty.' ......'Well it's not a FAIL, so I'll leave it for now...'

Had a similar experience but not MOT related, it had just failed at about 23 months. Yeah, go ahead and fit it mate, it's not two years old. It took a week before the bastard had the replacement in shock.

I have bouycoutted Kwik fit ever since they quoted for Pirelli tyres but tried to fit budgets onto my car.

The school leaver in our local branch put standard Michelin on the wife's car when they should have been extra load.

I had to go right upto the area manager before they would change them to the correct ones on the drive at no extra cost.

They then fitted Pirelli as that's all they had in stock so it was another 30 mins phone call before they buckled and gave me a discount.

"Is there anything else I can do for you Mr Cosmic?"

"No. I'll never use your company for anything ever again"

They still had the last laugh as the P Zero Nero they'd put on lasted about 5 minutes.

Would never go back to kwik fit or national. I know they might treat normal customers cars different butbin my company cars I used to go in with a puncture and come out with 4 new tyres. I would definitely recommend black circles but this time I did a bit research bought 4 from a tyre shop on ebay then got them fitted separately. Nearly half the price of the original tyres but are lasting half as long 😂

Fuck buying cheap tyres off eBay.

I had to use KwikFit for my company car tyres and I didn’t give two hoots if they wanted to replace the tyres.

I’ve just purchased a tyre machine. Will fit my own from now on.

Whilst I am all in favour of buying specialist tools that won't often get an outing (I have a shed and garage full), my last tyres lasted 6 years so I am not going to buy one of those.

because you weren’t paying for the fuckers , a subtle difference.
Read the message I replied to.

We got a £10k grant from Sunderland Council at the start of lockdown. All has to be accounted for so bought that and a ramp so far for our lock up.

Gordon Burnetts next to Sunniside carpark. Local firm employing local lads and they are as good as anyone else on price.

Moo likes this^^

I can see why people who aren’t into cars buy Chinese tyres, you can get 19’s for about 50 quid. Basically you can get 4 brand new ones for one Michelin. To be honest I’d rather lads in 15 year old range rovers had access to cheap new tyres versus driving round in bald ones.

Been using black circles for a few years now. The garage they used in Peterlee was terrible - made a right mess, so I paid the extra for a mobile fitter from Gilesgate to come over and do them - been spot on.

But last time they weren't available, but they had a deal for ATS to do them for nowt if you were a key worker (which we both are). Oddly, he warned me after to "pop in if you have any bother, as balancing on the van isn't always ideal".
And lo and behold, the balance on all 4 corners was terrible. I had an awful vibration above 60mph.

Nearest ATS is 10+miles away, so that's a fuck on. So I just paid my local garage to sort them out for £20.

So black circles = fine
ATS mobile fitting, imo, avoid.
the lad at shotton tyre centre is canny, been going there for years and always matches anything on the internet.

The company is Hi Q. They web site beat black circles and tyres2U for the size and brand.

I'll find out Friday if there are any extras!!

ASDA Tyres are the cheapest online I’ve found and you choose your garage of choice. Check for yourself between the others mentioned
Michellin PS4 for me.
They’re the only thing keeping you on the road, its worth buying something decent

Same tyre choice as me, very good tyre
By all means, keep buying Chinese crap that you have to replace within a year. I will stick to Continentals.

I used to put crappy tyres on my cars when I was younger and skint then I realised how shoite they were and never lasted five mins

Never used KwikFit since they badly fitted an exhaust on my 1988 Cavalier.

Picked it up on the Friday and it was knocking all weekend, took it back on the Monday and they workshop manager put it up on the ramp.
He looked at it for 10 seconds, went off to the office and came back with the fitter, gave him a dressing down and got someone else to refit it.

Lost all confidence that horrendous work could be done and nothing got checked, luckily it wasn't tyres or brakes.

See you and raise you with the knackers fitting the incorrect sized spark plugs which shagged my car. Was a right battle to get them to admit it was their fault as they claimed it was the suppliers fault for giving them the wrong ones!

Horrible grubby company and I’ll gladly take any opportunity such as this to slate them.
