Buy out clauses

Think we need to start considering putting these in our contracts for players..

For example if we had a £15m clause for Stewart, or for Clarke then teams wouldn't fuck around with £6-10m offers, phycologically they would be more inclined to match the buy out clause and get the player signed up quickly.

In theory, yes, but can work both ways. The player also has to agree to it and if they/their agent deem it to be too high then it can put them off.

On the other hand, I doubt even Stewart or his agent thought he’d be worth what he is now when he signed a few years ago. Players like him might have agreed to something like a 5 million clause at the time. Then we’d be losing out.

I think they are hard to gage at the level of player we are dealing with rather than high level, top players.

The club should simply put a price they will accept and if a club matches it then sell, we should also look to extend contracts on players who have been exceptional and get those done well before the final 18 months of the contract
