Burt Bacharach - RIP

Walk on By. Brilliant version by The Stranglers.

Greenfield's "stroll in the trees" is probably my favourite musical interlude of all time.
Probably the greatest songwriter of the 20th century, along, arguably, with Gamble and Huff and Holland, Dozier & Holland.

Some of his lyrics haven't really stood the test of time, like.

Hal David wrote the lyrics.

Casino Royale brilliant

Every song mentioned here is an absolute classic but this is Bacharach & Dusty at their absolure best. Irocnically the film was a total dud but that was nothing to do with Bertor Dusty. In fact I think it is only ever remembered for the theme song.

Special mention to Herb Alpert (still with us at 87) who played a lot of Bacharach's compositions including this one and the very popular "This Guy's in Love with you"

I can't resist putting this one up. Apparently although Alfie was a UK film Bert insisted that Dionne Warwick sing the theme song on the US release because he didn't think much of Cilla Black he had wanted Dusty Springfield to sing it on the UK release.

Great music Bert thanks

RIP

Love this one although Burt wasn't so keen on it, an inspiration for Interstellar Overdrive too:

Like I said, that Greenfield solo in particular was like the first domino falling over - it blew my mind and opened my eyes and ears to so many artists
A brilliant song by a brilliant writing team performed perfectly by a band at the top of their game
To an impressionable 13 year old it was a Road To Damascus moment

Absolutely. Heavily influenced by Ray Manzarek, obviously but he took Manzarek's baton and ran with it. That sounds he created: the sound they all created was like nothing before nor since. A band where every instrument could be the lead instrument within the same song. Just genius.
