Burnley v Newcastle kick off 1200 Sky Sports Main Event / Sky Sports Premier League / Sky Sports Ultra HD

Here’s a thought, he’s facing his own goal, hasn’t got eyes in the back of his head, there’s the ball I’ll clear it. Which he did, the ref didn’t give a penna, VAR didn’t give a penna, but you think it was.
To be fair you've explained exactly why it was reckless play. He's lashed at the ball at head height without knowing what is around him. Literally anywhere else on the pitch and that's a foul and yellow card without question. He could have played it with his head.

The reason the rule is there in the first place is to protect people from a boot in the head. Crazy that this was waved away imo.

Exactly. I think people think that if the foul wasnt intentional in that scenario, then it's not a foul. It's very possible and very frequent that players commit accidental fouls. It's a part of the game .
