He also was convicted of religiously aggravated assault and theft of the Koran from a library and had loads of previous, but whatever, lets just ignore the facts because it does wonders for our ability to go on rants and reinforce our prejudices.
No he wasn't.

He admitted harassment, not assault. There's a slight difference.

I saw the report of the court case on Look North last night and if there was ever a case of a died in the wool yob/hooligan/grade A prick this fella was that, he deserved the prison term handed down.

f***ing terrible that. Burning a storybook is worse than burning a symbol of our war dead? dont f***ing think so!

 If you took 20 seconds to read things properly, you'd save yourself a load of stress.

While we air our grievances through debate...the British and Americans take to the streets and kill innocent people.

Funnily enough, some Muslims would say exactly the same thing.

Yes, there are Muslims who are murderous bastards and are an incredibly low form of humanity. There's also the same in every other race / religion / social group. Unfortunately there are numerous people who are too ignorant to realise this and believe in the stereotypical views that all Muslims are evil.

As for the poster who suggested that burning a poppy was racial hatred, he obviously has no respect for the black and asian men and women who have given their lives for our country. Nor does he realise that there are thousands of 'white British' people who disrespect the armed forces in our country. See the flags raised aloft at a particular football stadium in Scotland.

Fine, have the debate, but it's worth thinking about who you're actually complaining about.

Well the reason this ex squaddie burnt the Koran was all due to the Muslim poppy burners...

The theft part is obviously wrong - but who in the right mind would pay for a Koran.

I'd thought I'd heard a commotion last night; I do wish these hoardes of rampaging murderous muslims would keep it down a bit, I could barely hear the loud music my white trash neighbour was blasting out

Killing innocent people isn't part of the British/American agenda...

Flying planes into buildings and blowing up trains is.

who do you think you are to lecture me on where my respect lies.

Racial and Religious Hatred Act 2006.

Why do people insist on taking the moral high ground. Fcks sake use some common sense.

And now the daft sod will have a nice spell in prison to think about the stupidity of his actions.

both are wrong and deserve to be punished, why do people feel the need to burn poppies or korans is beyond me it just creates more bigotry.

Did the poppy burner get fined because he spouted hatred or because he burned a poppy?

i'm fully aware of that. i wish everyone would stop being such PC wank*rs on this board in a desperate bid to make people think they are somehow more intelligent. the point of both acts was to p1ss people off and get media headlines. the best course of action would be to knock their heads together and say behave like human beings but given that we have brought in allsorts of bogus laws to cover the EU court of human rights each instance has boiled down to technicalities. the law is an ass and the general population are following. give your heads a shake and use some common sense,.

Before we entered Europe the law was transparent, fair and noble of course

Maybe they are cold and need a fire to warm themselves up

The poppy burners didn't have previous convictions, and they weren't also guilty of theft.

Do you see how this works?

He could have been fined up to £1000 for public order. You obviously haven't a clue how it works....

£50 fine plus £15 victim surcharge is called getting off lightly.
