I'm sorry but 3 times in a year is inexcusable - he's a professional sportsman FFS - he should realise this and knock that shit on the head - pro sports careers are very short lived and you need to realise you cant get away with that sort of shit. Regardless of whether he has a problem or not he should know f***ing better.

How must his parents feel - probably sacrificed a lot so this selfish twat can have a shot of a career and he's basically given them a massive fuck you.

I know him and his mam she really has put the miles in for him just hope some think can be salvaged from all this

My take on this:

Which recreational drug(s) was it?

Although I don't understand why anyone would actually get a ban for taking recreational drugs. I'm not saying sportsmen should all be on weed and pills, but if it isn't a PED, what is to be gained from taking them? If the police aren't going to prosecute - why should the necessary governing bodies? I've got quite a liberal view on it because after all, it isn't going to give them an unfair advantage and I'd rather see support given in terms of education and rehabilitation than hindrance.

However, that said, I think he should have his contract ripped up, I really do. THIRD offence for fuck sake?! There's a drug testing policy in place in my job, one failure and you're gone. What's more, he clearly hasn't learnt his lesson. How f***ing thick do you have to be to know the rules, yet continuously break them?!

As I say, the rules IMO around recreational drug use are wrong, but whilst they are what they are, all sportsmen know what they can and can't do. I'd be happy to let Burnham stay a part of the squad, but he can do that on his own time out of his own pocket for me. The club are cash strapped as it is and to lose someone for a whole year, through their own stupidity, doesn't warrant paying them in my view.

Finally, suppose Beefy can't sack anyone for taking recreational drugs can he?!

If it's on the WADA prohibited list, which ECB adhere to, it is there for a good reason e.g.cocaine is a a stimulant, cannabis in a psychoactive drug which can also have physiological effects on the body and effects mood, memory and pain pain sensation.

Seen it’s hair samples. I thought that was only for weed?

Which if it is just goes to show how stupid the attitude to the drug is.

He should know better as pro sportsmen though.

There's no doubt Burnham has talent. But watching him this season he seems to have a casual attitude to the game, an overconfidence as if he has already made it and doesn't have to put too much effort in. Needs a good kick up the arse and hopefully this will be the making of him.

I had heard he didn't keep the best company and was a bit of a radge. I hope he is looked after during his year out. While its deserved I can't help but think not being in and around top level cricket could make things worse.

He knew the rules and all that, but still a nonsense that a player should be banned for taking recreational drugs.

The ECB must be fapping themselves daft.

This is an interesting point

It was said on twitter that they will face a law suit soon as it's not technically legal

he's said that himself multiple times in interviews, how much has been sacrificed for him to get where he is.

which ultimately is still under performing as a pro sports man, i know it is still early days mind

this all day for me. i am constantly underwhelmed by him, batting and in the field.

He sounds like a f***ing berk if I’m honest. If you want a pro career you have to make sacrifices and being “one of the lads” is one of them. Needs to bloody well grow up!

People make mistakes

He's got a year to sort himself out

Sorry but that’s utter bollocks. Once you can say it’s a mistake and you learn from it but three times? Something tells me he won’t learn and Durham continuing to employ him will make him think he can get away with it.

Don't agree

He's a kid

Let's see how he responds

Loads of other kids in professional sport don’t get into that shite.

On a more general note it is bonkers how brazen people are about being on the marching powder and how popular it is. All the 'lad' types are like Henry Hoovers.
Don’t get me wrong I’ve dabbled in the past but then again I never got drug tested.

hopefully better than the first two times.

a year ban is huge like.

not just missing the experience - yes it might well push him to excel - but it could also spiral and send him off the rails.

he needs to grow up f***ing fast like.

fucks sake, as if we needed more kicks in the nads ben stokes and jack burnham

I was about to say he's always on the gear but i think thats pretty obvious. 3 Failed tests in one year, the lad needs to sort himself out big time.

I'm not remotely interested in other kids mate

Interested in how to get Burnham right as he's one of ours and a unique talent

18 months ago at the u19 world cup Englands two outstanding players and two of the best players at the tournament where Dan Lawrence and Jack Burnham. Today one has been voted by his fellow pros as young player of the season at the PCA awards the other has just been given a 12 month ban from playing cricket for cocaine abuse.
Very sad and lets hope not a terrible waste of a young man with a talent all of us could only dream of having.
