Building Work At The Ground

Planning permission for permanent floodlights at Bristol has been granted

From the Gloucestershire website -

“We would like to thank everyone who has helped us develop these plans, particularly our neighbours whom we have continued to work with since February. We will continue to work with them and officers to ensure the Floodlight Management Plan is in place before we start using the lights.”

Looks like they had to please a few NIMBYs as well. Wonder what the Floodlight Management Plan is and should we have done something similar?

Well there are limitations on our floodlights mentioned in the report.
1. after being built there are to be checked for glare on the motorway
2. they can only be used or cricketing purposes
3. they can only be used for a maximum of 20 times per year at night but also allowing for the possibility of being turned on during the day in low light situations
4. they can only be used at 10% after 10:30 pm and them only to facilitate clearing up and removal of TV equipment and similar.

Councillor James Cordon has said Durham Cricket should be passed as international success story.
Harker said T20 final had to be handed back due to no floodlights, cost the club 500k
Harker said without lights no world cup cricket, could cost economy 1.5-2m
Six lights have been used, so Durham Cricket meets ECB standard
The firm that will install the lights have previously worked at Gloucester Cricket Club, Wimbledon and Twickenham
Alan Brown of Riverside Residents Association argues application should use retractable lights like those at Lords.
Holmlands Residents Association have said 'major concerns' over lighting impact and 'rowdy behaviour' if application approved.
Durham CCC estimates spend of visitors at around £100 per spectator. Big impact for CLS
Supporters of DCCC application have pointed out people were aware of stadium when they bought there homes
There are now 15 letters of support for the DCCC application arguing it would bring economic benefits and people to the area.
Number of objections is now at 113. Visual impact among key concerns
Objectors to the application have questioned the club's 'desire and ability' to host international games after fixtures were cancelled.
Residents believe the economic benefits have been overstated

Application approved

Marty has been saying on twitter that they'll possibly be installed by the end of May - that's quick!

They will probably be an eye sore short term but everyone will just get used to them. Mind you i don't live on Bradman Drive.

Looks like Harker has done the buisness again. The fact that they owe the county council about 5 miion quid might have swayed the councilors

They always said that once the initial work was done that it wouldnt take long to install. All of the fittings are just about in place.

Great news.

According to the literature issued by the club explaining why they had started work prior to planning permission; the funding is conditional on the lights working during the 2015 season. The fixtures leave a window between the end of the Notts games to the beginning of the Yorks game of 13 clear days (16 - 28th May). Those 13 days would not have been enough time to do a full installation, so they have been doing the footings in advance allowing the pylons to be erected while there's no spectators in the ground. Hopefully, it'll all work to plan ...... but bloody good news
