Bubble trip on sunday (unofficial)

we're going down to Quayside for about 11am. Free buses are horrendous, likewise the train/metro from Sunderland have been a farce in recent years
The free buses are not horrendous at all. Straight there, straight into the stadium virtually dropped at the turnstiles. Straight on the bus and away afterwards. Ideal for anyone with families, elderly, disabled or just wanting a trouble-free day.

the train and metro is available for those who want a bit of excitement. Look at the pretty architecture, maybe a little train-spotting or enjoy a pint and a bit banter with the locals.

I'm sure everyone will have their own ideas. I am thinking there might be a bit of tension in the air pre-match, but I feel if anything is going to kick off it might well be after the match. Stay safe lads and lasses and look after each other if the police decide it's too big a job!

The cynic in me, you and anyone else would say it's a deliberate ploy - either purposely leaving it unclear or to actually only make it stop at St Peters - to put people off the train and conveniently have those buses turn up in the city centre to 'rescue' those who've missed the Metros.
Just pile into taxis - station taxis will lead the convoy. Spectacularly backfiring on the rozzers.

They let us out in single file last year i remember so everyone is spread out.

I noticed that too. They let our fans out and being on my own I left straight away. Everyone got to the bottom of the bank and didn't have a clue which way to walk.

We got to Central first and there was some waiting for us and others who'd mingled amongst our lot. A lot of confusion over who was who stopped some fights whilst a few punches were thrown before the Police caught up and restored order.

Potential is there for much more disorder as Police weren't arresting ppl.

There is bias because it is policed differently. Absolute nonsense to suggest otherwise. Having personal safety at the heart of the police plan would certainly come up with a different solution than they have. Something else is at the heart of the plan here. I don't know what but establishing a clinical solution in the long term might be it. At Sunderland it is clinical. Easy to police and very safe for travelling NUFC supporters. At Newcastle none of those things are true.
Last year I saw sporadic scuffles and luckily most lads could handle themselves and did so easily but no arrests were made that I saw for those aggressors. It looked like the instruction was to step in as quickly as possible and move them on. Where's the deterrent in that? There isn't one. Some find the prospect of being attacked abhorrent and they tend to go on the bus but if 1200 or so travel in dispersed groups by train/metro then the police can not let their safety be threatened. In the current plan it is, even if that's just a kick or a punch. I think the police have got it wrong. I think they are biased in their planning. I think they want no metro/train travel from us on derby day.

No police escort stops the coins, bricks and bottles being chucked into Sunderland fans, it's far safer for that reason alone in my opinion. The size of the rock that went past my head a few years ago on the walk to the ground would've hospitalised me easily, anything that stops that from happening is a positive. You're far more likely to get hit by someone chucking something in that escort than a punch without it.

They're policed differently due to the proximity of the stations to the stadium, the two nearest the SoL are within a stones throw (no pun intended) of the stadium, so a quick police escort is the most obvious solution. It's also a piece of piss to border up Sheepfolds and allow them to walk up there as quickly as possible. This is just not possible in Newcastle due to the station being miles away from the stadium and the walk there being long, with lots of different routes. The police do an okay job for the most part, there's very little trouble and there will be very little this time around as well.

I used them yonks ago for Newcastle away and they were shit, 10mph on the A1 on a really old conked out bus, then through shit holes like Cowgate, no thanks.

As I mentioned earlier, it was almost midnight when we got back to Sunderland from Boro after a midweek league game. Tend to just make my own way now to Boro and use the train/metro for Newcastle, though on Sunday we're just getting a lift straight up to Newcastle.

you will see just as many local tramps on the bus to be honest when they are all standing outside in Cowgate or whatever route they go now. when we got off the metro at central last season, it wasn't too bad, few nuggets hurling abuse outside Gotham City, then it was fairly quiet after that and everyone was split up, likewise coming back down after the game until we got outside central, but the coppers seemed to have the radge Mags under control.

The club state the buses got back before trains/metros left central station last time. Not sure how they came to that conclusion as my experience was it was a free for all, certainly wasn't a dedicated "football special" for us heading back to Sunderland.

25 buses doesn't seem many for an almost 3000 sold out allocation

I see what you're saying, but if it was the other way round you'd have our lot saying that we are being herded and victimised and it's unfair etc.

The derby match always provokes a negative response towards the police from a contingent of both sets of fans, but generally speaking they do a class job. If I was a cop the last thing I'd want to do would be to police the derby.
that's exactly what people used to say

Agree with what other have said about trying to force people on the buses. They'll have everyone queued up on the street outside Sunderland Central and not letting them in only for the buses to turn up. The same thing happened a few seasons ago when Bendtner scored the penalty. They told everyone there was no more metros so a lot lost patience went for taxis and the coppers shit themselves. All of a sudden we were allowed down on the metros.

Very scarce, just the odd Geordie full of bluff and thunder. The Police were in straight away to nab them. The whole event last year was very relaxed and apart from the positive result, pleasurable. In a way I think it backfired for the police, coz there is nothing more they would like is to herd us in and out like cattle.

A group of Sunderland turned up and kicked off outside the Strawberry. Someone off here's mate got a crack outside Central. I saw two mags put on their arses outside the dog and parrot after the game and it was getting a bit hairy on Pink Lane. Not anything major but definitely more actually fighting that day than id seen the previous three or four combined.

Dont mind though, cos as away fans you always have the upper hand and there is more like mindeds all grouped together. Was just twos and three of mags having a pop so they never stood a chance.

No as I'm sure others would testify they're much better. In and out hassle-free. Ideal, for those birth bairn's and families.

Then just wait about for a bit. I was part of a group of about 60 and we walked through no bother, except when the couple of mags got chinned next to the dog and parrot.

I was up Pink Lane (:lol: ) and never seen any bother at all. Only bother I seen was when we were walking back to the station and the odd pissed up mag started trying to hoy punches. They were dealt with immediately by Northumbria's finest. All in all, though they probably hate the fact now, NP pulled off a blinder with the policing.

Obviously, if you were stupid or juvenile enough you could have quite easily found yourself some bother!

Like I said, we were fine. But someone pointed out on here their mate got a crack from a mag loitering pretending to one of us, they then legged it after him. If theyd got hold of him theyd have got done.

Easier to just chip in for a taxi and drink in town imo.

early metro then down the quayside is our preference. Never any bother and didnt even hide the fact we were Sunderland fans either (werent being dicks mind)

Last derby I went to (ages ago) drank in the George and Dragon before the game, then over to what's now the sizzling pizza buffet thing. Was weird being around them on derby day, but no bother as we didn't go on daft.

You have to remember, compared to the number of fans that attended the game, this would be trivial in the big scheme of things. Most just enjoyed the occasion and went straight home either happy or sad...

Not trivial if you end up with a record for defending yourself mind (although i wouldnt accept it if it was me)

More likely to be bother after the game - especially if the result goes against them
My opinion is there will be an escort back to the station after the match
Our lot need to stay together regardless
