Bt broadband

Is it any good, Virgin are hiking the price up another 7 quid, that'll be £50 just for the broadband, looking at Bt for about 30, only use it for the firestick and the PC , no downloading of movies or music.

It’s by far the best consumer product on the market as long as your access layer is good. The back haul network is superb and extremely well managed in terms of uplift when it’s needed to manage capacity.
You will hear folk telling you they get 1gb speeds from alt nets and Virgin but they all get contended at peak times and those CPs don’t have the resources to run a properly balanced network.

My deal for Virgin broadband is up end of the month so going up to £48, been with them years as well. Going to give BT a go I think

This does not work in your favour in my experience.

I am not with Virgin but my supplier does from time to time let me know that the price will be increasing. Standard procedure is to phone up threaten to leave and then they usually put it back near enough to what it was. Obviously some small price rises along the way are unavoidable, but if you have been with your supplier a long time and have never threatened to cancel then you are doing it wrong.

Broadband is the biggest selling con out
As a nation we have been pushed down the online route
Banking shopping tax returns etc and providers are taking the piss
Corbyn was right
Free broadband for everyone
Although haven’t some city centres have free broadband access
If you live in the centre are you able to tap into it

He was but he sold it really badly. It came across as from broadband for lazy people to sit at home all day watching Netflix. What it should have been was a basic connection to allow kids to do schoolwork and people to search for jobs, order food, check bank statements etc. Something like a 2mb connection for free. If you want anymore you have to pay a private company.

I ring and threaten to cancel at the end of every contract. They always make an offer that's a couple of quid more or half price for a while etc, thing is it still creeps up over time. I thought a couple of years or so moving to BT then go back to Virgin on a newcomer deal. Dunno though it's just expensive whatever happens

No problems with BT here. Get the broadband and telly for about £50 a month, no sports or films in that mind.

Just ring up ask for retention's, tell you want to leave and quote that price and why. they'll give you a better deal.

Had BT out about 5 times in 2 years because the router couldn’t get range around the house. From memory:
1st bloke - only checked connection up to entering the house, was fine.
2nd bloke - came indoors at least, couldn’t find anything wrong, blamed the steel lintel in the extension as possibly interfering with the signal, strangely only at certain times of day.
3rd - replaced router that turned out to be knackered, worked well for a few month
4th - up to the house again, didn’t come in.
5th - came indoors, reset whatever and said it should work, it didn’t. Just managed with power line adapters instead and got used to it dropping out every now and then.

After contract was up moved to nowtv broadband. Seems just as bad signal wise but doesn’t drop out and about half the price.

They're about to stick a big price hike on their bills under the CPI thing they have in their contracts. They were in the news earlier in the week,

They have long contracts with this stuff in them so will be a lot more by the time it's up after a couple of these hikes.

In terms of service, isn't it all about where you live and what your connections are like anyway? BT service here (semi rural) has been way worse than BT or SKy in our previous homes in more populated areas.

He wasn't responsible for it being seen as for the lazy bastards. That was the Tory led media who obviously see it as a golden egg

2mb? We're not a third world country marra.

I think it’s class. Got it in my new build and it’s flawless.

I had it through EE and their customer service, even when leaving was excellent.

Virgin Media acted like tinpot bullies when I dared try to reduce my parents' package. Wouldn't touch them again out of principle.
