Sunderland boss Steve Bruce has vowed to fight to keep England new boy Jordan Henderson at the Stadium of Light.

Henderson is set to be handed his Three Lions debut against France on Wednesday night after catching the eye of Fabio Capello.
The 20-year-old is regarded as one of the best young players in the country and the likes of Manchester United, Manchester City and Chelsea have all been linked with a move for Henderson.

Bruce accepts he faces a battle to ward off interest in the youngster, but he insists he will not be sold for anything less than £25million if they were to consider offers for the player.

"It is wonderful that Jordan is playing for England - he deserves it," Bruce told the Daily Express. "Make no mistake - he is that good.

"Everything about him is right. He is full of endeavour, young, hungry and the archetypal modern-day footballer - 6ft 2in and yet a marvellous athlete. He is also a level-headed kid, which makes him a pleasure to work with.

Courted

"Put all these qualities together and he is courted by all the top clubs.

"It is my problem and, now he is also playing for England, it is going to be so hard to keep him at Sunderland, but I will try. It will be a fight, though.

"Why would you want to sell him for anything less than £25million?"

Not a fan of that final sentance like.

Why would we sell him for anything other tha ridiculous money (40 or 50 mil)? It's not like we're skint, we're rich.

Get him on a massive wage and get him kept here for his whole career.

So we still have a price then ? Is he trying to scare clubs off or is he looking for £25million to spend ?

Get him on a massive wage and get him kept here for his whole career.

He is on a good wage I would imagine as he has signed two contract in recent years, last years along with Meyler which was good business by the club.

If we keep progressing then I cant see why JH would not stay for at least a few more years. Only Man Utd at present would be suitable for him as none of the other top clubs will play him regularly enough.

Love the way Bruce talks up the price. i'm sure he doesn't want to lose him , but if he has to he wants as much as possible for him .
sorry but if we were offered 20 -25M , we would have to accept and henderson would probably want to go , he would be set for life.

He already will be. Do people think hes on buttons here like.

i would say he's already set for life, a young level headed kid must be on at leat 20 grand a week after those previous contracts were ripped up and new one signed i have a feeling he'll be offered another much more lucrative one, which will tie him to us for a long time with the added bonus of forcing buying clubs to offer alot of money to get him to sign,
on another note, when clubs ask to be kept informed about him, how does that work??? bruce said all the top clubs have been in touch and asked to be kept informed, just cant imagine what the convo would be, "hi steve its sir alex, can you keep me informed about young jordan?" erm sorry no, fuck off, he's ours, whats all that about!!!

Because N'Zogbia+Kanjcar+Onuoha+Elmo would improve the squad more than Henderson alone. It't that simple!

He is not vowing to keep him he is advertising the fact that he would sell him if the price is right.

Can we not afford to buy them as well as keeping Henderson?

We're hardly skint.

Do you think Short is Abramovich or Mansour?

Didn't people said that we have a very little net spend? Now we are rich?:?:

No but he has a reported wealth of £8.3bn so It's not as if we would have to sell him, We could add players progressively ?
