what if we end up signing all of those loan players? how does it look then?
Then we'll be the same as now, average. We've already signed the worst of the 5 to a permanent deal. :-(

And you categorically state that they did not?

Got to be honest and say i don't mind Elmo as a squad player for the proce that's been bandied around.
they were both crocked
the contingency - you seem to be suggesting that we didn't have a contingency for bent wanting away because it isn't possible and the same goes for Rooney. But Man Utd do have one and they aren't afraid to use it.
So the contingency for Rooney is the same contingency that we had but ours isn't/wasn't valid?
f we could only post hat we categorically knew then roger could save a fortune on bandwidth.
You're giving your opinion and other are giving theirs (other than Dessie who seems to be in the process of needing a knew log in).
My opinion is that his opinion that Bruce and Quinn had no opinions on possible replacements may be incorrect.
If he wins the next two games and gets a top ten finish and turns what was starting to look like an abysmal season into a pretty good one, then he can say whatever the fuck he likes and go cap in hand to the board for more cash, but at the minute he should be concentrating on winning those games and saving his season and nothing else. Certainly not excuses for not saving the season anyway!
No we didn't have a contingency for bent unless something hasn't been reported and we did in fact turn down his transfer request in January and offered him more money to stay but I don't believe we did.

so it's not the loans that's the problem, it's the choice of players? You don't think that keeping a stable team would help the players next year? Do you think it is better to get rid of them all and bring in new players?
It seems to me that if we keep Nedum, Elmo, Mensah & Muntari then our team would actually be fairly stable and it wouldn't matter that they were on loan originally. In fact, we will probably end up saving a good few million by loaning them first.
As for Elmo, well, I think next season will show whether he was a good purchase or not. Football is littered with names that didn't overly impress in their first year in England, but surprised in their second. He's been a big part of our team this year, and yes, we are average. But he has adapted better than just about any of our other overseas players, and is one of the youngest, so the most likely to improve. I also think we could easily get more than £2m if we wanted to sell him right now.
Wait, I think you missed a step. I've been told that he was given a payrise in the summer to keep him here in a bid to keep him for the season. That is where I was comparing contingencies based on payrises. I believe Newcastle had a similar problem with Carroll who they had just signed to a 5 year contract.
So he comes along in the winter and says I'm off. It would have took transfer window payrises to keep him and that's if he even wanted to entertain the possiblity.
Bruce doesn't like to make excuses, but...
Then it's not a contingency if he comes back again and you decide to sell him without a back up.
It is only hearsay but it was widely reported that Bent would have stayed if we'd paid him the money he was after in Jan. Now I'm quite happy to tell him to sling his hook but in that case the club should have had plan b.
You're ok that they didn't and think they did everything they could, I think it's very short sighted, naive or however you want to describe it to be caught out like that, when theire were obvious signs that all was not well.
But there has to be a breaking point. Say he was the highest paid player on say £50k per week plus bonuses. He came in summer and asked for another £10k which management agreed to on the basis that it would keep him until the summer that should be the end of that. In the winter he comes in for another £10k it may just have pushed them over the edge. Needless to say we are not Man Utd when it comes to wage demands.
It's not that I'm ok that they didn't do everything that they could, I just think that it reached breaking point.
