THE time may come, Steve Bruce concedes, when Jordan Henderson decides to sample life beyond Sunderland, writes STEVE BROWN.
For now, though, the Black Cats boss insists the interests of England’s newest young starlet are best served on Wearside.
Bruce says the 20-year-old – already on a long-term contract, his third in a year or so – can have 23 new deals if he wants!
The important thing is he is given time to develop, playing week in, week out, to fulfill his potential.

Because that, Bruce says, is all he is thus far.
He joked: “He has had three contracts in 18 months and if he wants another 23 he can have them!
“He is on a long-term deal now, which is all built in to success.
“The next couple of years for Jordan are huge, and I want to make sure he fulfills all the potential he has
“We have seen many a good young player just go by the wayside. You heard it with Scott Parker and his opinion now is he left Charlton too early.
“The one thing Jordan will not want to do is go somewhere and sit on the bench and be part of a squad when he is playing week in week out in the Premier League.
“He has amassed something like 50 games already, and my aim is to get another 50 or 60 into him and let him mature and develop.
“I still think there is a bit of growing in him, he is only 20.
“So we must help him and that means him staying at Sunderland.
“He is very level-headed, the boy. I don’t think there is ever going to be a problem with him. He is a bg Sunderland fan as well.
“There will be a time when he might want to leavem but for the next two or three years at least let’s give him a chance to establish himself as a very, very good player.”

Talking up his quickly depreciating asset ;)

What......because the idiot England manager picks him to appease the media clamour to play our "bright young things" and then plays him in a completely alien role. The lad is not a holding midfielder......he is a box to box player but unfortunately thats Gerard's role or Lampard's when he's fit. To be honest he would have been better off on the wing against France.

At the end of the day the lad has a full cap at the age of 20 and not many get to that level at that age. Yes, his debut was a bit disappointing but there are mitigating circumstances.....

This is spot on. Based on that and the Derby I was told by a barcode I work with on Wednesday when watching the highlights that if Henderson had gone through Newcastles youth system he wouldn't even have been Nolans boot cleaner  because, and this was my favourite part, we have got a very average team and that is the only reason he gets games.:lol:

He'd finally be out of contract when he's 43.

Bruce is either shit at maths or really doesn't care about the future stability of our club.

He is saying he can have another 23 contracts not a contract for 23 years. Thicko! fyl2u Out!!

almost get the impression Bruce is trying to offload Henderson

every other day there's some sort of interview with him saying the same thing... needs to develop but if the big boys come calling with £20-£25m he might want to leave, going to be hard to keep hold off him but he'll try his best etc..

why does he keep on saying the same things over and over?

Because the press keep asking him the same question and it's rude just to say read last weeks papers.

if he recieves big money for a player with potential then he takes it!
History is littered with bright young things who failed to make it in the long term
25 million is crazy when the likes of van der vaart went for about 8 million

if we get a £25m offer for him i'd hope we take it aslong as it goes back into the squad

could bring in 3 or 4 quality players that including wages

just wondering if theres something else behind all the we'll do our best to keep him stuff lately, almost inviting bids, maybe just me tho

I cannot describe my utter contempt for someone who posts such images on the internet. Epic fail and Darth Vader FFS.

Are you an 11 year old boy from Iowa who likes pretend wrestling?[/QUOTE]

Errr no.

But even if I was, it would beat living in Jesmond, Skunkvile.

It always makes me chuckle that pic.
