And just how much do you think a proven 20 goal a season striker will cost us then ???? That is assuming fatty wants to replace a proven 20 goal a season striker, and if he doesn't then he want shooting the fat fucker, but I guarantee it will be a damn sight more than we got for B£nt if he does buy one.

Totally irrelevant, the player wanted away, had we kept him he wouldn't have been a 20 goal a season player. When are people going to realise that we're Sudnerland and not Man U, Chelsea etc, we can't keep top players happy, due to the area, not playing european football, small wage structure (in comparison to the top teams), so when an offer comes in for a player we have to consider it for the benefit of the club.

I'm pretty sure Bruce would love to have kept Bent or to have another 20 goal a season forward, but without silly financial backing, that's just not possible. How on earth is that Bruce's fault?

Have other people that can also score goals. I'd rather have the whole team score 40 goals than one person alone scoring 30. You also ignore the fact that there will be capable of scoring a nice return of goals. For example, Kevin Phillips didn't come to us with that guarantee.

Players who scored 20 goals last season:

Dimitar Berbatov
Carlos Tevez
er...

Not irrelevant at all, first of all we let B£nt go too cheap, and secondly we do need to replace him, I know he wanted away, I knew before the club did, I posted it on here and slated for telling the truth, but please explain to me where it is irrelevant to want to replace a a departed goalscorer, we are not Man U etc, but we had SKP for quite some time and would have still had him had we not been relegated so don't give me that old shite.

Well it is as Bent WANTED to go, you can't command too high a fee when someone wants to leave, if you do then players refuse to play etc, look at the Tevez scenario! However we can't afford to have a player in that situation!

As for Phllips, he was a one off and back then players contracts seem to mean something, we all know these days the contract is worth fuck all!

I'm not sayin we shouldn't replace him with a goalscorer, but are you so naive that you think it's easy to go out and find a 20 goal a season player that falls within our budget and wants to come to Sunderland? If so then please let Bruce know as i'm sure he'd be more than happy to have him here!

I think too many people are getting carried away and think we're a bigger and better club than we are, to alot of footballers, we're probably jsut a small time club still. (Obviously that's pure speculation!)

B£nt wanting to go is not the issue FFS, however replacing him is, we let him go far too cheap, you can ask the going rate for whatever player is being sold, and a player that has his goal scoring record is worth more than £24 million, and trying buy a proven replacement would cost more than £ 30 million easily, Liverpool bought a streak of piss for £35 million that was far from a proven goal scorer in the PL and are now ruing that day, but I do believe that the right player with the right attitude can stay, some other clubs seem be able to keep their goal scorers happy, and they are not Manu, Chelsea, Arsenal etc.

We've spent close to 140m in our last 5 seasons in the Premiership so are you saying that isn't a shitload of money ?

In the context of the money brought in through sales, which has to be done to remain a going conern, no, it isn't a shitload of money.

Our performances and results are mediocre but if you want to carry on believing that everything is ok then so be it.

This is the road down which your type usually goes.

Load of shite, mate.

No one said it was 'ok'. Read my earlier post.

And who should we be competing with. tell you one club straight away and it's the mags.

So, Marco, after a disappointing start to the season, we're not competing with Newcastle? Another load of shite.

Businesses look to long term growth for a reason. It is the bigger picture that counts.

Just as well you don't run your own business, mate, as you'd start panicking during a blip and fuck all the whole thing up before going under.

Re your point about a left back not been a pressing need, then lets carry on using a right footed defender there instead which gives us no balance whatsoever.

Simple need versus resources.

We only have so much money.

Ideally we'd like a left back but is a left back at the front of the queue of what we need, bear in mind we don't have a bottomless pit of money?

ps - and if you're happy with a draw against Fulham then so be it. I'm not and imo we should be beating teams like them.

Fuck's sake.

No one is 'happy' about it.

But there's realism. Fulham are a long established premeirship side.

If you're going to base your decisions on the fantasy of who we should be beating because you've convinced yourself we're Sunderland and they're only Fulham, then we're well and truly fucked. The reality is that Fulham are a decent side who year after year don't go down, and only a couple of seasons back did well in Europe. Seriously, where has this arrogance come from? We don't have anything to back up the idea that we should be beating Fulham. It's pie in the sky, man.

They don't but it is usually on the back of excellent home form and historically they are very poor away from home.

If you don't think we should be beating the Fulham's of this world at home can I ask you who we should be beating?

Bent wanting to go IS the issue when you're saying he went for too cheap. If he wanted to stay, then yes i agree £30m would have been a better offer, but when a player wants out, they end up going and it reduces the fee a club is willing to pay.

Can you name me one player in the Prem who is a 20+ goalscorer that doesn't play for a so called big club and is happy being at a smaller club?

Can you fuck cos there isn't one!

There aren't any guarantees.

We all want SAFC to be top 8.

The difference is that some want it now based on the fantasy that we're Sunderland.

Others accept that we've come a long way in 5 years, that building is just that and takes time, and are prepared to wait rather than sack the manager for another one who starts again with his own idea of a team.

During pre season half of you lot now panicking were wanking yourselves into a coma over the pre season signings. Disappointing start and the world has come to an end. Some of you just go whichever way the wind blows. When the reality is that we were always going to be inconsistent with half a new team. Not a clue really. Just thinking that they'll all slot in and we'll start winning matches consistently.

24 million (although we've probably seen less than £20m of it so far!) looked a f***ing massive price until Carroll went for 34. If you think that less than 15 years ago, Shearer, one of the best players of his generation, went for a british transfer record £15m - now ordinary strikers like carroll go for 34. That's hyper inflation!

They beat us 3-0 in April at home. I was encouraged that at least we have improved since then.

Bent is apparently one according to every post i read on him?

The fact he is a so called 20+ goalscorer is the simple reason we couldn't hang onto him and never will be able ot hang onto a player of that calibre cos we're jsut not a big enough club at the minute and our wage structure isn't as big as other clubs.

Bruce is getting the blame for Bent leaving and not replacing him.

However i think bringing in Bendtner and Wickham are two excellent signings and had the club held onto Gyan, we wouldn't even be having this conversation now as we'd be in a much healthier position.

Even if Wickham had stayed fit i think he could have been the difference in teh Fulham match and we'd be going into the mathc tomorrow in 10th and full of beans against Wigan.

However an injury prevented that and becuas eof that all the doom mongers come out and try and highlight in every post they write what a bad job Bruce is doing. However i don't think he is!

You'll get eaten for that mate, didnt you know we won the title over a century ago so we have the right to call ourselves that

I'm used to it, i've been getting eaten alive at any point i've made that hasn't been slagging Bruce off.

I forgot we're used to having Ferguson in charge and winning the leage every year!

Odemwingie or whatever the fuck he's called for West Brom, scored 15 in 30 games for West Brom, not a bad player that they can keep hold of, and I'll bet there are one or two others.

There aren't any guarantees but that doesn't mean to say that it is unreasonable to look at the league and teams and think 'that's a game we should be winning' especially given that after the previous run of games we were told that it was a 'hard' run of games and that we should have a better idea after this 'easier' run.

I would have more faith if it looked like the manager had some idea of how he was going to slot the players in to some kind of cohesive team, but at the minute it looks anything but.

We definitely could have used Odemwingie's solitary goal this season.

Bent had big questions against him when we signed him ........ I don't think anyone expected him to get 20 goals every season if we're being honest.
