Bruce - Bardsley first choice left back

Phil Bardsley done a good job at left back last season. He'll be even better with a proper left-sided player in front of him next season. :-D

Its bollocks what some people on here think. He proved last year he is going to work hard on his game to continue improving, cannot think of one bad game the lad had.

He scored last night cracking finish, and will be constently working on using his left foot in training, he better than Rico at left back he can tackle for a start.

Why does he need to improve on his left foot when he could do a perfectly capable job with his right, on the right hand side?

Did you not go to Wolves at home?

He had a canny season and everyone can recognise that. I have no problem with him whatsoever and think the team would benifit from having balance in the fullback areas. Bardsley at right back and a natural left back would be perfect, also with Bardsley being two footed he could cut inside and shoot with his left foot.

win-win situation.

Funny that, given he's so "2 footed" that when he scored against Villa he used his right foot, yet when he's scored from the left he also used his right. Why doesn't he use his equally good left foot to strike the ball once in a while?

He's not gonna play right back though is he, when we have O'Shea, Brown, Elmo that can all play there. I think if we can get a decent left midfielder then playing him at left back is idea the left midfielder can draw defenders out for bardo to run through and score. Simples

Lets get one thing straight Elmo cannot play right back. Brown is a better centre half than he is right back. Fair point regarding O'Shea. That still leaves a problem of having no balance on the left.

Elmo isnt the greatest right back, but he's still an option. I think theres benefits of having a right footed player playing left back.

Firstly most right wingers who he will be facing only have a right foot, with bardo being right footed he can force them to cut in, putting them on there weaker foot giving either him the opportunity to tackle or if they make progress a centre half to come over and clear the danger.

Secondly he loves a tackle, works hard, and gives his all. I know for a fact I would prefer a team of Bardos that give 100% every game, then a team of Rico's that only puts the effort in when he can be chewed.

I know i'll get slated for that, but if our teams gives 100% that all I ask, we can lose every game as long as we have a little fight about us.

Suddenly it all makes sense...

Lets leave it there.

Thats one of the stupidest things ive ever read on here.

EDIT: Btw, I bumped this thread purely because I knew people on here would use a goal in a friendly against York as evidence that Bardsley is a good goalscoring fullback (no matter which side he plays on)

Bardsley is unfairly maligned on this forum I think. He's not the greatest going forwards and is poor in distribution but he rarely lets a man get past him and is pretty solid defensively.

He improved a lot last season and there are other areas of improvement needed before LB.

In the modern game it's the easy route to being beaten to have two marauding full backs. Far better to have one side where the FB pushes up and can be another attacking option and the other side remains fairly defensive. This means you protect against being caught on the break as the remaining defenders can shuffle over and it only needs a winger of DCM to cover the far side or track a runner; although you rarely need to cover more than 3 players in a counter attack. This way you offer best value between cover and offering attacking options. Bardsley suits that purpose.

Obviously I'd be thrilled if we signed a quality LB but if we don't it's ok. Besides O'Shea can play there. I also don't believe a word that comes out of Bruce's mouth...I'm always convinced there's a transfer angle or a squad motivational angle on it, just like I don't believe Sir AF.

By whom?

He was good for us last season, some people would prefer to seem at right back. Me included.

He's not though. Thats the main thing that people who dont rate Bardsley (especially at left back) are saying... Its not a case of "he's nee danny alves", its a case of "he's not good enough"

well everyone seems to want shot of him.

I dont want him in the first team tbh. He'd be good cover at right back though.

well about half the people in this thread want him gone. I think that's overly maligned for a person who won player of the season.

Collins won the f***ing thing twice. It means fuck all because, as demonstrated a few posts before yours, our fan base is thick as owt...
