Bruce - Bardsley first choice left back

Richardson's pace is a very useful asset when defending for starters, even if he's not making a tackle it's unlikely a winger will be able to get away from him

richardson proved to be good at left back earlier in the season. adam johnson got fuck all from him.

bardsley is consistent on an average level

Would you prefer a player to play consistently average all season, and have 5-6 great games, or a play to play 10 game excellent and the rest shit?

Of course he has poor games, he's only human. Every footballer has poor games.

See Wolves at home as a very good example of Bardsley playing poor.

Richardson isnt consistent enough look at players that are average and play for top teams, and because they are consistent they do well.
Gary Neville is a prime example (I am in now way comparing Bardo to GN its a consistency regerence)

He can't use his left foot and gives us no width and struggles to defend whilst on the left.

Have a look at the left backs in the league and see if he would get a game ahead of them:
Evra - No
Cole - No
Clichy - No
Gibbs - No
Assou-Akotto - No
Who is Liverpool's? Agger? - No
Baines - No
Salcaedo - No
Warnock - No
Enrique - No
Higginbotham - probably not.
Robinson - debatable
Elokobi - debatable
Figueroa - No
Olsson - Probably
Promoted teams - no idea.

If that doesn't give you an indication that we need a proper left back then I don't know what will. He's a right back or on the bench.

Bardsley was not consistently average and I can't recall him ever having an 'excellent' game. He had as many bad games at LB last season as Richardson has ever had there.

Ironically his best performance probably came at RB away at Villa.

Youve obviously have been watching a different team to me mate

Both, ideally ;)

Bardsley's the kind of person I'd like to keep around; having him on the bench knowing he can cover the right back slot if O'Shea gets injured is pretty reassuring.

Richardson too would be an ideal candidate to have on the bench, as he's quite versatile so can cover many positions. At the moment Richardson should be first choice left back, Bardsley second choice right back, and we should be in the market for a natural, proven left back.

It'd be interesting to hear from you which games Bardsley was great in.

Remind me of Bardsley's 5-6 excellent games please? Also, when has Richardson had a "shit" game at left back? I can think of a few pretty awful Bardsley performances.
