Broke me freezer

I've managed to break my freezer.

Attempting to solve the lack of ice problem I cleverly took a screw driver to the inside of my freezer to chip some away. Unfortunately my enthusiasm got the better of me until I heard a violent hissing noise.
Anyone got any idea how much I should expect to pay to repair this? It's a shitty old freezer so am I better off just getting a new one?
I'm awaiting a quote on the phone but have been warned it will be premium cost with bank holiday and that

You've ruptured a pressurised line and lost the coolant gas. I very much doubt that a part is available and a repair would I imagine be very difficult. Then you've got to refill the coolant.

Just get a new one! The existing one's probably due to go wrong again anyway.

For what it would cost to repair and replace the parts you have so expertly fucked up and then refill with gas, you could probably go and buy a new fridge/freezer. Unless your fridge is almost new and cost a couple of grand

That's what I thought. Its making a pretty loud vibrating noise. I'm assuming it's trying to compensate for the high temperature. Can I just leave it like this to buy my frozen goods a bit time till I can go and buy one? Or am I looking at a explosion?

I think you will find snakes need to be kept in a warm climate not cold

That will be the compressor thrashing because it has nothing to compress! Just turn it off and get a new one. Leave the freezer door closed with the still-frozen food in and it's insulation should keep the food frozen for a reasonable time.

Probaly start looking soon. When mine went, i had a look round the big shops and they hardly keep any models in stock, so ended up having to order off the internet.
Was expecting to pay a premium to get it straight away (over internet prices) but couldn't even do that.
