Broadhead.

See i think that a reason we will bring him in. We dont want a striker to replace stewart we need a backup / option across the front positions. Broadhead's injury issues actually make him an ideal backup option for 1st team
If Stewart picks up an injury it’s pretty high probability Broadhead won’t be available. I rate Broadhead but I m just not sure we’d get many games out of him

Broadhead gets a mention in this article:

Nothing new or profound but it just seems like things are still up in the air, he is 24 so no use to Everton playing junior football, I doubt they’re going to chuck him in off the back of his season with us in League One, even though he did impress. I think he’ll end up leaving on a permanent deal, whether he comes to us will likely be down to if the player enjoyed himself here or would like to stay in the north west and with one year left on his deal I doubt he’s going for big money, certainly under £2m but probably much lower. I hope we sign him.
I wonder how much Ellis Simms is going for?

Id be moving heaven and earth to get him if he’s available

I think they’ll keep him around a bit longer unless they get a big offer, how old is Rondon now? Seems to have been around for ages him, I’ll think he take his slot of the bench the season after this one.
Didn't even think about him untill I read that article. A few of the other articles mention Everton wanting a fee in the region of £500k, but reeks of guesswork.

Would be happy with a loan.

Just a thought. Some players who get injured aren’t injured forever. Medical teams and programmes can generally help. It seems worth a mention.
Check his record out man. Dear me, it’s so blatant in Broadhead’s case. See my breakdown since 2017 (39 games in 5 years) 👆 and he’s only 24. Most recent example gets chosen for Welsh squad pre play off final and drops out within 48 hours through (another) injury.

How much evidence do you need?

That last sentence defies any sort of logic! 🙈
Nah I agree with what he’s getting at. We’re gonna play one up front most weeks next season. Having good quality options in the squad will be difficult to achieve, given we’re gonna go with Stewart whenever fit. We will have to compromise on something with our other options. It could be experience, could be talent, could be age, could be ability to specialise as a striker, or could be injury susceptibility. If we’re building a squad we’re gonna have to make a choice on what we compromise on. Having someone like broadhead in the squad could help in a weird way as it allows us to balance the available minutes across three options - as well as strengthening our ability to convince a PL loan that they aren’t just gonna be sat in the stands most weeks. Yeah it’s a roll of the dice that he’ll be fit when we need him, but I’d roll the dice for the chance to get talent more often than not - so long as the price reflect that.

True but there does seem a succession of them over the last two seasons at least. It's a gamble I'd take at the right price - but some players who get injured regularly always get injured regularly. Even if we sign him I think we need someone on loan capable of playing up front as well.

In the past we've had far too many injury pone players in the squad, but I would say that a club can afford the odd player with question marks over their fitness.

In Broadhead's case, if he hadn't had these injury problems we wouldn't be able to get anywhere near him as he'd be in Everton's first team squad.

I'm in at the right price.

£250k then add ons, or that region, ok. But wouldn’t pay a lot more than that, lads a third of the way through his first team career and barely played through injuries.

We’re not of the stature where we can take the chance of relying on somebody being fit. Essentially you need a Broadhead replacement for 1/3 or 1/2 of the season.
If we’re play one up front for the whole of next season there are only just over 4000 striker mins available. Realistically that total is gonna go above 5000 up to likely no more than 6000. Assuming Stewart takes the majority of those (3-3.5k but not the 4K he got last season) we’re only likely to need 2-2.5k mins from the other two forwards. We got 1200 out of broadhead last season so getting that from him again, plus another option getting similar, will likely be plenty. And if we can make some progress on the underlying hamstring stuff, we’ll have the opposite problem - not enough minutes for the players we have.

Good you’re right. My position would always be can we get him on the pitch when needed & at the minute the answer is no.

Oh it’s definitely the concern. However that bit of doubt would likely enable safc to get into a position where our three options are more talented overall, in a way. A more reliable second option would probably leave the third option with barely any minutes at all - and would leave us scrabbling round for players who are either desperate or have little/no expectation of playing.
