The African chiefs sold their own people to the Arabs, who then brought them to market, all of which is conveniently forgotten.

It is mildly annoying that slavery is seen as a white crime while in fact everyone was into it

White people were seldom victims.

In fact, now that white people are as likely to be trafficked as non-whites, no one seems arsed about it.

It's Reverse PC Gone Mad. We're going away from Hell in a handcart.

The Turks did it for a couple of hundred years, and the last time I looked they were quite dark. Strangely enough the majority of their slaves were white.

Everybody has had their turn at taking slaves at some point. The way people go on you would think us and the americans were the only ones

If you're referring to the Barbary corsairs, there's a brilliant book that I'd recommend having read to you called White Gold by Giles Milton.

Folk from the Barbary coast used to raid Cornwall quite frequently.

It's no accident that Slav and slave are similar, the Romans named them that for a reason.

And on today of all days, let's not forget the frigging Irish who used to go on slaving raids to Great Britian.

Apparently something like 2/3rd of all Icelandics can trace their DNA back to Ireland - it was a country largely populated by the Vikings as they dropped off slaves from their tours of Europe.

Trading people is as old as civilisation itself.

The slave trade was already firmly up and running when Britain got involved, but we and other European powers took it to another level.

It was Britain though that basically put an end to large scale slavery, by firstly making it illegal here then using the Royal Navy to clamp down on it the world over.

Was actually referring to Circassians who were unlikely to have been captured by pirates, but thanks for throwing that into the equation as most of their captives were white Europeans.
Strange isn't it how these things are forgotten.

Wilberforce, I think?

I don't they are forgotton tbh.

Perhaps it's not mentioned what people are talking about the 'slave trade', but then that usually refers to the Atlantic Slave Trade of the 16th to 19th centuries.

It's well documented that every Empire used slaves. It's just more relevant to us how our Empire used slaves.
