British Food For Ex-pats

I’ve been there 3 times and always laughed at that place. The Jumbo supermarket directly opposite is absolute quality - some of the best fresh produce you could wish for. And cheap beer.
Yes mate. The bread and cooked beef from Jumbo were lovely. We bought a few bottles of wine too, regular visitors on our hired bikes.

I bought a great hoodie for 9 euros from a Dutch version of wilko’s.

Did you queue at the ice cream parlour?

Every night mate. Best ice cream ever and only one euro per scoop first time we went. Broeders possibly my favourite ever place to eat too. Chicken satay or ribs with a Zwaar Blonde to wash it down.

Getting hungry now!!!

The queue for ice cream on a Saturday night was massive. A nice town.

We could only persuade our kids to eat at the (Amalfi?) Italian restaurant (3 separate evenings). We passed broeders a few times and we were recommended a Greek place that the kids also bouycoutted.

Yeah we went to the Greek place too, more meat than a man could possibly eat. My kids loved Broeders, the burgers were really good, and the queue for the ice cream place was big every night to be fair.

It is a beautiful town, my kids want to go back again even after going to Disney in Florida. They just love the park, the town, and most of all the Tikibad water park!!

Yes we were really impressed too and I usually hate water parks, but there were plenty of smart Euro women to perv at.

I was a bit sad when we returned home as we’d got into a routine of cycling to the beach each morning.

Aye there’s something to be said about cycling without worrying about a car running you off the road. I reckon the Dutch have life sussed, I would quite happily live there and would certainly consider retiring there.

Me too! I regret not trying to live/work in Europe before I settled down.

I also took a shine to Ghent.

We visited some rellies in Canada a few years ago. One afternoon he disappeared for a few hours and when asked where he was I was told he’d gone on a 4 hour round trip to get some ‘proper English sausages’ for breakfast from a specialist British shop.

I was quite touched by the gesture but a little dismayed when he returned 4 hours later with a pack of Richmond

Time to stock up again. English and Irish food week in Lidl next week. :)

Four whole pages in their new flier. Happy Days.

Our lass came in with some footlong hotdogs from American week. Nee buns like the dafty.

We don't have any Tesco or Marksies here. And Danish supermarkets tend to sell what they know will sell and English food don't have a high rating there am afraid. Once in a blue moon Netto will have a bunch Red Leicester but they only have a few and only for a very short time. And when it comes to UK beer or ale you can get Newcastle Brown in most larger shops but little else unless there is a promotion thingie going on, which isn't a regular thing. Lidl's English & Irish Food Week twice a year would have had to do if my normal online food supplier calls it a day when Brexit kicks in. So am very happy to have found this corner shop website.

Maybe I could do my own lil' import/export thing. I could import lovely pork pies and cheeses and blue wrapped Wham bars in exchange of remoulade, Haribo Matador Mix, proper ryebread, bottles of Små Blå, pålægschokolade, æbleskiver pans and cheap tabs.

Evening Alex, forget the Melton Mowbray, they're mass produced shit. This lad makes the best pork pies I have ever tasted.

Rip off. Like the shops here that sell Yank gear. Baked beans man. There's a reason other countries don't bother selling crap like that
It's really not to be fair. For the things that I miss from back home these guys are great for getting access to them. I don't do baked beans so i don't have to worry about them but if I did my local supermarket stocks them.

What do you miss out of curiosity

BAnned after Brexit

They have picked a good week if that was to be the case.

Ooh, they look fantastic.
use your frying pan.

My frying pans are all round but I could probably fry one at a time. Or take out the old griddle pan, that might work better. Anyway all of that is bit irrelevant as I don't have a footlong American sausage.
