It’d be a piece of piss to escape to France then from Dover. A jet ski could easily outrun the merchant shipping.It's not as mad as it sounds.
A jet ski will do 40/50 mph and the distance was 90 miles, so 2/3 hours on a calm day would do it including refuels.
Obviously jet skis aren't cut out for open water but I bet they could out manoeuvre most patrol boats if he gets chased.
