**BRIT awards 2023 thread**

You know Brit music is in a lull when the1975 win a brit award ......

The sackless people in charge just refuse to look. The award they won was alternative / rock!

Some really good stuff released over the last year as well. Got bands like Yard Act writing really clever stuff about contemporary Britain, opening up on Jimmy Fallon in the US and even (strangely!) collaborating with Elton John but they don’t get a mention. Just not the sound in vogue and not quite bland enough. Need loads of zany lights, stage nonsense and mad clothes to get a look in too.

Diversity in terms of geography in Britain isn’t really looked at either.

Well done Hazza, well done Lizzo for getting ya flute out, well done Wet Leg for bringing hippie back and well done Sam Ryder for being a f***ing trouper and thoroughly nice bloke 😎♥️

I realise that 1. I’m old and 2. This kind of thing, and the artistes who are typically nominated and awarded, is/are all about getting attention and being noticed but…

There needs to be somebody - like Rick Gervais was for the Golden Globes - who can just acknowledge and draw attention to a lot of the utter absurdity on display throughout. I know it’s just pop music and not meant to be taken all that seriously but a lot of those people could really really benefit hugely from having the piss ripped out of them.

The Guardian are fuming as per usual.

😂

Well I’ve just read that article and you either haven’t or have quite wilfully misrepresented it. There is very little fume, just commentary on the criticism rightfully made in wider discussion on it.

And even if they were fuming, they’d have a point. Abolishing male / female categories and then nominating all blokes as best artist is ludicrous. For the Brits to come out and say that basically there were no women to nominate is unbelievable. The Mercury award winner was a woman, several nominees were (how did Self Esteem get completely overlooked after the year she had with George Ezra included?). Basically, the entire process was a mess and the show itself was garbage. Not that any of that is a surprise.

In saying all this, I need to remind myself that none of it matters

Have a like for the last sentence which sums it up perfectly.
