That Palace attack was like one of ours under Ross - looked really promising but no-one showrd initiative, ended-up playing in front of the oppositon and going from side-to-side
Absolutely. I want Sunderland out of League One, but I’m in no hurry at all to get back to the Prem. I’d quite happily see us spend some time competing in the Championship.

Premier League football is becoming an absolute circus. Thanks in no small part to VAR.
Absolutely this

two hands my arse thats a goal
He had 2 hands on it but I don't think it was either side like quarter to 3, on 1 viewing it looked more like 20 to 4 from the angle they showed from behind the goal through the nets but I wasn't watching closely.

I don't think that matters looking at the rule below so was it the correct decision even though he fell onto Maupay's thigh who had challenged for the ball with his foot? I think it is the correct decision, very soft though but it's simply because Maupay went for the ball and if he wasn't there Butland wasn't dropping it either.

A goalkeeper is considered to be in control of the ball with the hand(s) when:
  • the ball is between the hands or between the hand and any surface (e.g. ground, own body) or by touching it with any part of the hands or arms except if the ball rebounds from the goalkeeper or the goalkeeper has made a save

You see all the differing opinions on here about was it a foul or not, was it a penalty or not, apart from offside and goal line decisions it's all about an opinion. That's why VAR will not work.

It's shit.

Refs should be the ones making the decision, it's their job, let them get on with it.
Exactly this. You can’t get many decisions right or wrong and you can’t force a system to try and achieve this as there is such a subjective nature to most things in football.

Only way it could work is as a tool for referees to view footage at their own request if they think they’ve missed something or want another closer look. And it should be only them viewing it in real time only. No VAR, no instructions, no appeals and no slow motion
Penalty was the correct call.
Disallowed goal was the correct call.
Disagree on both counts.

Weird how a penalty gets retaken for encroachment but a flare thrown into the side of the pitch - which I would imagine is offputting - is ok!

I blame the referee. He should have over-ruled VAR. the first for play acting to get the soft penalty, and for the goal, ball parried against Maipay. Brighton again making hard work of scoring, even from 12 yards. On a third viewing both decisions are understandable. Still 0-0. No complaints, not for missing a penalty that should never have been given.

Hughes had his arms all over him. That shouldn't be allowed playacting or not.

My take on this was that Maupay had his foot raised but pulled his foot away. The goalkeeper had control of the ball but in doing so fell forward and the ball hit Maupays knee causing the ball to dislodge.
Be it right or wrong I did not think the goal should have bee disallowed.
