Brain aneurysm, what to do ?

Seriously 5.5cm ? That's huge, over 2 inches. Hopefully it remains stable for the rest of your natch πŸ‘πŸ‘ Brother's a paramedic and he explained how serious a burst on the heart artery is, best of luck to you πŸ‘πŸ‘

You doing OK though ?

30mm !!! Jesus wept blows my mind that, good to hear your doing OK πŸ‘

Yeah I think so, I've had 4 coils fitted and just finished the 21 days of heavy drugs, thinners, opioids etc and now on Thiamine, paracetamol, ibu etc.

Literally woke up day before my weeks holiday was about to begin, felt ok and soon as I was upright boom, I knew straight away it was an hemorrhage. Lost all feeling below my left knee during the episode (thankfully I'm not paralyzed and everything's working ok now) car Paramedic turned up in minutes thankfully and got me to resus before being transferred to a reginal NRTU where I was for two weeks. I'm out now obviously and just taking it easy, still got a big couple of weeks without the big drugs which is scary considering that a second bigger turn sometimes happens. Just got to go easy I guess, bit heady.

Spoke to my nurse who rings me twice a week today infact, they are pleased with my progress. I can drive again in another 4 weeks(assuming no other episodes) which is great. I've also bizarrely developed a liking for chocolate which is something I never really did. I told the nurse and she laughed, apparently its not uncommon. I said I've eaten more chocolate in 3 weeks than I have in five years.

Anyway Stumps, just gotta take it easy for 12 weeks or so, Like me a Few lifestyle changes and yous will get through this mate.

Good luck on your recovery mate.

I knew I would find someone on here who had/has 1st hand experience. πŸ‘πŸ‘
She had a scan for a throat problem which thankfully has cleared up but the scan showed up the aneurysm (apparently there are shit loads of folk who unknowingly have them).
Anyway it's 6-7mm, the position I would have to check the neurosurgeons report however I'm currently in the pub.
He has told her to carry on life as normal which is encouraging but the options are monitoring (like your missus) or the choice of 2 procedures, 1 is clipping the aneurysm I believe this is actually going in, removing part of the skull to get to it or whatever ? The other option is through a vein in the leg where they send "coils" whatever they are up the vein and fill the aneurysm with them.
His report quotes all the % risks of the 2 options from death to minor or major stroke etc, however he also quotes the % risk of the aneurysm bursting if left and as she gets older that risk increases.
How does our situation compare with yours ? If you'd rather not reveal the nitty gritty details publicly that's fine πŸ‘

I got my device card sent through today from the hospital Stumpy, forgot to mention it. I thought I had only two fitted and it says four coils manufactured by stryker/target and I mentioned it to the nurse, I said that is quite a few more than I thought, she said some people have eight or nine fitted dependent how big the gap being bridged. I assume that mine must be bigger than an inch or so to have 4 fitted, but like I say its not uncommon according to her to have more fitted. ps all mine were up through the groin area, so don't worry yourselves.

The Facebook group is Brain Aneurysm Awareness UK if anyone is interested.

Lots of people sharing their stories. I don’t post on it but it’s nice to know you’re not alone.

Ex's sister had one...pretty serious, left side of her body paralysed and speech gone. She came home after 6 weeks, fully functional but slow in everything. Made a full recovery and went back to work.

I used to sing her songs from the musicals when visitng...this may have worked against her therapy :D

Good love to you and yours ❀️

Funny you should say that as I said exactly the same thing. She had a telephone consultation with him a couple of weeks back and obviously it's a lot to take in as well as a bit of a shock when he's telling her all the finer details. Afterwards I said you should have asked him if it was his wife what would he advise her to do, but hindsight and all that.
One of the good things is our lass has always had low blood pressure, whenever she's had her blood pressure taken its " Your blood pressures a bit low mind" then she tells them it's been like that since she can remember.

Thanks for all that, some good info to take away and digest.
There's me worrying over 1 and you've had/have 5. To be fair your experience gives me optomisim at the end of the day your still here, and ya mar πŸ‘πŸ‘
Has your wife been given a gentic cause to her problems? .. something worth looking into is Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome

I was so lucky. I went to work for 4 days with my brain haemorrhage. Had to get a lumber punch to verify if I had one.
Christ you were mate, 4 days wtf.

Them lumber punches are something else aren't they, they tried 3 attempts and were unsuccessful. they told me I would instantly feel better having it done so I insisted we go a gain the following day and it took another three attempts, I was about to call it a day and the final attempt with a smaller needle was like someone cattle prodding me between my nuts and arsehole. Took 30-40 minutes to drain. They offered me another last week for today or tomorrow, I've said can we hang on I'm improving slowly I think. :)

Aye. My mate asked why I kept sitting down and I told him that on the Sunday it felt like someone had hit me with a hammer on the heed. And that I didn’t feel well afterwards. He said go to the walk in centre. They looked in my eye with the flashy light thing and rang an ambulance.
Once at Sunderland royal they suspected a brain haemorrhage but could believe I was okay. Did the lumber punch and I went for a fag. Walked back to the ward to about 10 doctors and nurses/ambulance people. Strapped me up and blue lighted me to RVI where I had my first op to stop the bleeding. Nearly shit mesel.

You still in hospital now

Just looked that EDS up and I wouldn't say that particularly applies to her. I reread the consultants report today, he must have asked her family history questions during the telephone consultation as he mentions there is no family history of haemorrhage (forgive the spelling 🀣) but an uncle did have a single aneurysm that was small enough and in a location not to warrant surgery.
Something I have not mentioned previously she is a smoker and has been for a good 45 years 😑😑 I've never smoked and have tried in vain to get her to stop but to no avail.

She's made a decision and opted to have it treated. A nurse from the RVI has been in touch a couple of times, looks like she has to go in December for some pre op discussions etc then early new year for the op.
They going to try a coil passed up a vein or artery whatever it is from her leg, if that doesn't work then it's open up her head time πŸ™ˆπŸ™ˆ Not sure who's more worried me or her 🀣🀣

Fingers crossed for you mate that the first option is a success.

Good luck to you both. Once you both get on the ward and speak to these doctors and nurses you will naturally relax. They are the best, and they don’t have to say it.
