Boycott's comments on Cook

Irregardless of all the talk England are in a bit of a dilemma regarding Cook.
Let's face it both tactically and inspirational wise he's not a very good captain,I mean how would he motivate anybody? He's a wet fish.
They should really just let him get on with being what he was, the best English batsman of his generation, but they can't sack him now because of all the turmoil it would cause especially after being sacked as one day captain.
I fear a long and painful summer.

I think this predates the series. Graves didn't need to make the comment about the Windies being "mediocre" there was nothing to be gained by such a statement, it put pressure on England and clearly motivated the Windies. Why not just let them play and maybe comment after the series? His comments added nothing.

I do worry that this is yet another bluff "Yarkshu" man who thinks he can say what he likes when he likes. This, and the KP comments make me worry that he will be a constant mouthpiece of embarrassment for the ECB

The Windies had a new coach which was probably part of the reason they wer fired up. We still shouldn't have lost a test and certainly not in 3 days.

We now need a big improvement in terms of batting (especially opener) and bowling (bar Anderson) prior to the ashes. We should have been a lot further forward with the opener issue but between Cook and Moores we wasted 6 innings on Trott

The stuff I read on the BBC website seemed OK.

I don't know the full list of players who are playing IPL or those who don't play tests anymore but I would have thought Gayle, Darren Sammy and Sunil Narine would improve the Windies team. They are ranked about 8th in the test list which is very poor for a formerly great test team.

Nah Narine has played 4 tests and took 15 wickets at 48, he never gets picked, Sammy wouldn't get in the side now Jason Holder is there, his test record is poor.

They are only missing Gayle, thats literally it.

You seem tense. All of your bile founded on hatred of Boycott and KP.

Just what IS your role in the ECB?

Nah no hatred for KP, more the consistent talking about him

Boycott is an absolutey awful man, his opinion shouldn't be of any importance, and it isn't to be honest.

Agree. The fact we are heading into a huge summer still not knowing our best XI is criminal. I didn't agree with playing no tests between Sept & April at the time and still don't. Lyth has a huge ask now to play NZ in early season conditions with the likes of Boult and Southee hooping the ball all over the place. Also, we have no clue how to fit Ali, Stokes, Buttler and Jordan into the team ans still stay competitive.

Actions speak louder than words, so let's give him a chance. He should be judged on how the game is moved on/ restructured, rather than any comments. To be fair, he only said what everybody else thought re the Windies. The ECB can't actually get more embarrassing...so he won't have much impact there.
Fair enough. I'm very much saddened that Strauss will be the new Director/Chief Exec or whatever his title is (how many execs do we actually need) as this will perpetuate the status quo. Like him or hate him, Vaughan would have shaken the place up

No argument there.

No argument there.
Suppose we have to go back to basics

Best 2 openers: Cook, Lyth (hoepfully)
Best middle order: Ballance, Bell Root
Best All rounder: Stokes
Best Keeper: Buttler
Best Spinner: Ali
Bets Bowlers: Anderson, Broad, Plunkett

There you go. There's your XI for the first test v NZ. Ali is in the team for his bowling unless a better spinner comes along. Stokes is a better bet with the bat at No.6 IMHO. Ali could slot in at 5 if there is an injury to one of the middle order

It's a conundrum

I think we all want Moores gone, and the combination of him and Cook certainly needs looking at, but despite what you think of Cook as a captain, I thought Boycott's comments about him today were a disgrace, he sounded like a parody of himself, and there was absolutely no need to get personal.

All because Cook made a half-hearted joke about Yorkshire when he was DIRECTLY asked about Colin Graves several times.

I hope someone in the media takes Boycott on, he's an unbecoming dinosaur, who is a joke figure among the players.

It annoys me that the BBC give him a platform, its funny for about 10 seconds and then its just boring.

Someone needs to say you were the most selfish player to have ever played for England, and a f***ing wife beater

Sorry but needed to get that off my chest, hate the bloke.

That was pretty much my reading of it. He heard someone say "Yorkshireman" without referring to said Yorkshireman as a demi-God and went off on one.

Exactly that, spot on

How many people has he criticised over the years, imagine if they got as angry as he did. It was a light hearted comment anyway.

He can say what he wants in the Telegraph but I don't want my licence fee money going to people like him.

Boycott is terrific value, yes he's a bit outspoken and obnoxious but he's far better than many of the middle of the road on the fence type pundits. We dont want a cozy old boys network of blandness similar to most of Skys football bollocks.

No but he's a parody of himself

Sky lot are the best, Nasser is absolutely spot on, he is desperate for England to do well, and he praises them when they do it, but criticises when they don't, but not in sensationalist viscous way, Boycott loves it

You have to remember that Boycott was like this when England were the best side in the world and winning back to back Ashes, he's an arsehole.

I wouldn't worry about it mate, he's getting on a bit and wont last forever. No doubt to be replaced by another bantasaurus type wanker ala Swan

Best his comments are taken with a pinch of salt anyway.

I'm sure they are I just wish they didn't get so much coverage. He's a dinosaur, a wife beating one at that

This is my point, not sure how anyone can disagree with Harmy here

I like Boycott, but he has got a blind spot when it comes to Yorkshire (as does Vaughan)

The mafia bit amuses me, as we had a southern counties mafia for years (how many average Surrey/Sussex/Hampshire players got caps in the 80s/90s?!

Graves' comments weren't helpful, but Cook needs to be careful what he says too.

Basically, they can all shut up, do their jobs, make whatever decisions they need to (including replacing people, if needs be) and do it behind closed doors!

Boycott is from a different age and whilst 90% of what he says is common sense, he lives in the past. He cannot see past his former colleagues in Trueman and the like and is far too dismissive of the current crop of players.

The irony of boycott saying cook is up his own arse and thinks he's untouchable is one of the funniest things I've ever heard. That would be the perfect line to describe Mr Boycott.

Geoffrey boycott is one of the most arrogant people of all time. I'm not old enough to have watched him play but from my dad's comments he doesn't deserve to be mentioned as an all time England great selfish player and selfish bitter man.

Says plenty of good things but by good he's one of the biggest hypocritical twats I've come across.

I'm on about his personal comments, not about his comments on Cooks tactics and captaincy, which is far enough. Big different, he overstepped the mark here.
