bowel cancer screening

long story short i had a bit blood on my poo on the toilet roll not in the bowl but ive been torn to share this.. so i did the poo test and it showed blood as i knew anyway.. so 3 months later ive have some seriously bad lumps they are called polyps removed and had ct scan all was done painlessly.. it dosent hurt getting a camera up ye bum.. no pain at all even removing the polyps never felt a thing..and im a fcking wimp.. in fact i watched it all on a big telly next to the bed.. was amazing.. surgeon called me today to tell me the polyp removed was a high value polyp.. in laymen's terms it would of turned cancerous.. but im fine no cancer but i will have to go back in 3 months for a follow up camera.. all of my closet family have died young with cancer.. this is why i got screened and the blood.. im 55 btw

so get it done..

I have a similar tale , found blood on my stools earlier this year , went for a colonoscopy and polyp removal ( worst thing about this was the drink I had to have the night before, awful 3 hours sat in the bathroom :))

I had high value polyps too which they couldn't remove during the colonoscopy and had me in for an op within 14 days , luckily I got the all clear shortly afterwards

Glad I went to the GP originally as there was a time I would have ignored it

For the first 50 years of my life I've barely had a days illness then this year has been a constant round of doctors and specialists as I've been diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease this year also

the pre bowl clearing is an expierince in itself like ha.. luckly when i went back the second time to get my high value polyp removed i just had an enima on the day.. which is another bizarre experience.. 😀

We're quite lucky here, everyone over the age of 50 gets a letter to collect a sample bootle form the chemist to do a po stick test, sit backwards on the toilet, curl one out, then rub the stick in it and put it back into the tube. Then into a small plastic bag and into the fridge until you have to drop it back off. Within a week you get the results back.

Twelve months ago I volunteered to take part in a cancer-screening research programme. I give a blood sample that is tested using techniques that can predict the cancer well-ahead of other equipment available. At age 71, and from a lineage on my mother's side where death from cancer is the norm, its great to know that it can be detected early enough to do some remedial work. I've done 3 tests and with every test I get a £10 shopping voucher. So this and the bowel screening tests are worth it
