Borini

Personally I wouldn't pay a penny over £5M for him and I'm not even that arsed about signing him anyway.

A lot of people are letting their hearts rule their heads.

He scored 10 goals in 40 appearances. How many of those were penalties?

Aside from scoring, which he doesn't do often enough, he has very little else to his game. Remember all the times he was slated for poor passing, over doing it, being greedy.

I'd pay £5m tops but that'd be as a last resort.

I guarantee of Fletcher had been fit for prolonged period at any point last season he'd have scored more from open play than Borini did in total.
absolute lunatic

Liverpool would like nothing better for us to come straight in with a double figure bid, they're probably banking on it. I reckon we'll probably sit it out and see what other interest he generates first. Imo he wouldn't get anywhere near a top 7 side which only leaves clubs around our stature of which I can't really see anyone going to more than £7-8m for him and even then, if we match their offer, surely he'd come here anyway if he loves us so much. Good player and I'd like to see him back but I don't think he's a season maker or breaker.

Wouldn't get in a top 7 team? Hahaha good try

I'm not crazy about him signing tbh. I'd rather see the club spend £10-15m on a midfielder than Borini.

they play with two advanced wingers, yes? Who would get in in front of him? Eriksen, and...?
I'd be happy to have Lennon or Sigurdsson here before him but like I said, is amatter of opinion. None of them are like for like anyway as he's a striker playing out of position on the wing.

You'd be hard pushed to find somebody who has both the work-rate and ability of Borini that'd be halfway interested in coming to us.

Neither of the two you've mentioned fit those categories.

Given what he achieved last season and what you would be purchasing in improvement over the length of his contract and we are looking at 12 million minimum. Possibly 15. He would be worth every penny.

Or we can keep purchasing 3 million pound 'might be's' and hope 1 in 5 come off.

I wasn't saying they would come, I was replying to someone else's question.

I know that mate, and I still think you're wrong. I don't think either of those players has the work-rate and dedication of Borini. Technical ability, possibly, maybe I got carried away.

No probs mate, differing opinions make for a better forum. Borini certainly has the work rate on those two but I think they both shade him technically.

He knows Poyet's system and has a great celebration. For these reasons alone we should sign this lad.

The lad is only 23.

12 mill is fair enough for a player who will fit straight into the side and is only 23. Not a squad player who needs to settle but a player who can fill a role from day one and is not yet in his prime.

If he does well then his value in a couple of years will be twice that at least with the way transfers are going. Maybe its time we bought assets which stand a good chance of appreciating rather than ones which just lose value and we let go for nowt at the end. people thought 20 mill was ridiculous for Henderson but there is a player who will be a key player for the Dippers for seven or eight years in midfield.
