Has popped onto the mat today from Liverpool Victoria (not our insurer)

Apparently we were in Basingstoke crashing into a Ford fiesta. Odd because our car was in Northallerton and looks fine

What's the best way to proceed, obviously apart from telling LV to stuff it....?

1. Contact LV and tell them the craic from your point of view.
2. Call the Fuzz and report the fraud against your vehicle. LV may want a crime reference number to put it to bed from your side.

ta, will do

Does it state the make/model and reg of your car?

If so, then there's a chance someone has 'cloned' your car.

Either way get on the phone to your current insurer to let them know the craic and they'll tell you what to do.

Only the reg, not make and model

edit: gave them the reg and they immediately say 'it doesn't match the car in the collision'

How clueless? Can they not check these things before they send out letters?

Mistaken identity anyway, panic over

Get straight onto your insurer, they'll have some sort of procedure in place for this type of thing. Could be cloned plates, could be just someone writing a letter/number down wrong if the other car has drove off.

Pleased to hear it

Was that your insurer or LV?

If it's LV it could be worth informing yours just to keep yourself right.

And then go driving round as fast as you like through speed cameras.

Ad one of them from a company down south who's insurers stated that one of me vans had been involved in a hit and run down towards St marys car park in the january. the van was bought new and has no previous accidents or clains against it.. told my insurerers that a wing headlight, bumper and new bonnet were being claimed for by the other driver.

They claimed that one of my drivers had driven off after hitting the other vehicle (which turned out to be a hire car). bearing in mind the damage claimed the other driver did not contact the police reporting this. I took the van back to the main dealers who confirmed that no accident damage had taken place and the van was as factory supplied.

Told insurerers fraud claim and hear nowt more..
