Bobby Robson Mag Hero

I don't think he was a die hard either, he swayed more towards Newcastle but he came from an era where it was quite common to have a fondness for all North East teams. Also leaving the area as a young man meant he never would have had the same level of support as a common fan would.
I'm not so sure about this tarnished view of the club and fans. He was an intelligent man and I doubt that he would let a minority of supporters who called for his head overshadow the majority who didn't. Look how he was treat by England fans and the F.A, disgracefully but would he let this effect his patriotism and love for the national team ? of course not.

agree with the first part and its highly unlikely he racked up thousands of motorway miles following either club. it's similar to steve bruce and most other professionals who claim to support a club when in reality it would be almost impossible to "support" once a career takes off.

maybe it didn't tarnish his view with all but i got a sense that he was a bit uneasy when amongst the fans. maybe it just put an element of doubt in his mind after once being a 100% hero he must've known that many weren't totally behind him. the time i met him he was smiling and nodding etc but you could see he didn't really want to slow up.
not that it means much but he stopped and talked to me for 10 minutes.

Your average bed sheet waving misspelled ranting mag will protest for many things

Yet when a manager if Sbr ability gets the bullet for finishing 6th not a whimper, not even a pillow case was fluttered not a shoe was waved

You have to wonder why
Is this bizarre decision incited mass non hysteria did they buy shepherds notion that sixth was too poor for nufc

I've been trying to avoid adding to this thread because as has been pointed out by a few people, these Bobby Robson threads are a bit embarrassing.

...but you've just reminded me of something. In the run up to Robson getting the bullet, Newcastle put a bid in for Rooney. Man Utd then also bid, and a section of the press claimed that Shepherd was helping Man Utd to get the player they wanted (never quite understood how that conspiracy theory worked). It was then leaked to the press that (being a scouser) Rooney's prefered destination was Newcastle. A mag I knew joked (or so I thought) that Shepherd would probably have to sack Robson to get out of that one, and a few days after that comment Robson was gone and Rooney (who had burned his bridges at Everton by this point) was left with only the one option. I can remember the mag being resigned to Shepherd just doing whatever he wanted, I don't know if that feeling was widespread with them but it might explain the reaction to what was a really bizarre sacking.

I'd forgot how many absolute ***** they had playing for them then: Makes Taylor look like ****-lite.

Perhaps some of the dipshits on this thread should listen to the man himself talking in that youtube clip.

Fuck knows why they seem bent on claiming him to be a mackem supporter. Going to games at the SOL hardly makes him a supporter. If he went to the riverside did that make him a smoggy. He was at SJP plenty after he was sacked.

I suspect the only reason he went to any of them is because he was so used to being at a ground on a Saturday afternoon and nothing more.

Was he rude to people? Quite possibly. Who wouldn't get fed up getting constantly harassed for autographs. How could he get anywhere.

Robson meant nothing to me then or now. These threads are meaningless.

Oh yes.
But a club statement revealed the 71-year-old, who has been at St James' Park since taking over from Ruud Gullit in 1999, would be replaced early.
Magpies captain Alan Shearer is the favourite to be installed. What next for Shearer? Shearer has made no secret of his desire to move into management when he finishes playing, and he is due to hang up his boots at the end this campaign.

Bruce would have got them 10th yanar! dinnar bowt MO'N tho

Early speculation has also linked former Liverpool boss Gerard Houllier, Celtic's Martin O'Neill and Birmingham's Steve Bruce with the vacancy.

They booed him at the Fulham game in his last season.

Wrong on two fronts....It was against Wolves and the team was booed off not Robson - it was a woeful performance against a team already relegated when we still had a good chance of qualifying for Champs League

or just that many bought the delusion of grandeur, where 6th wasn't acceptable and the was better managerial options?

what surprises me is the revisionist view of what gone before. that is, SBR becomes footballs grandee and held up as a decent bloke fighting cancer and wanting to help others similarly afflicted. now the mags want re claim him, after casting him aside. the protests for keegan and chris houghton tend not to give the sense of apathy you describe, they just couldn't break out a bedsheet for sbr as they were kidding themselves they deserved better

So this is the monthly Robson thread. Every time one of these shameful threads occurs ever so slightly the little white lies get more and more accepted as gospel so I might as well get the, ticked off already

We spat on him when he was Newcastle manager
Every NUFC fan wanted him out of a job
We wanted him sacked for dropping Shearer
He hates Newcastle and he is 100% Red and White
It sickened him to turn up at DA WONGADOME in his last days

Let the man rest ffs.

I like Robson

But one thing you can't dispute and you are just lying if you say otherwise, is the majority of mags wanted him gone. I remember it clear as day. You can deny it now if it makes you feel better.

Apologies for bringing up this old chestnut but couldn’t resist after listening to some Geordie moron on Talk Sport today, first of all he professed to be a Geordie fanatic but didn,t know what the last trophy was that the scum won, he guessed it was sometime in the sixties but didn’t know the actual year. he then said they last won the FA cup in 1957.
He kept the best till last asked what keeps him going supporting a club who have not won anything for a long time he replied "The one thing that keeps me going is that the spirit of Bobby Robson runs through this club"
This from a fan who the majority drove Bobby Robson out of the club, "To old" "Out of touch" "Cant motivate the player" and a management who sacked him at the first sign of a few bad results and made him take them to court to get his just deserts.
God they make me sick the way they shed crocodile tears, pretend to grieve and hijack Bobby Robison’s name.

What a crock of shit, I am the majority of fans, Ive been going to the games for 30 yearsn, the majority of fans didn't drive Sir Bobby out, Every once in a while one of you sad bastards try to pretend that all nufc fans hated sir bobby and wanted him out, what a load of bollocks, he was loved and respected by the vast majority of fans, but obviously some fans wanted a change, this happens at all clubs , there was even a thread on here that a nufc fan spat on sir bobby, what a pile of crap, do your research mugs, he was spat on by an ignorant, pissed bloke who attended an england game. The stories you lot try and circulate to try and make you feel better are sickening, anychance to have a dig at nufc fans, you're just using sir bobby as an excuse, disgusting & delusional , let the man rest in peace

Judging by the level of banter & opinions posted on this site most of you lot have learning difficulties , in fact i'm surprised the MAJORITY of you can read. dicks

most people get their information from a variety of sources and weigh it all up. some of the sources include Bobby Robson's own book and insider's views such as Craig Bellamy. Both of those appear to differ from your account although i'm sure there were a range of opinions across the supporter base.

one thing that is absolutely obvious is the complete lack of support and backing just before, during and after the knives were out. Even the minority who "supported" him stayed silent and Bobby Robson knew that.

He loved the club , and the fans loved him. Some safc fans will beg to differ, some nufc fans will pretend that they didn't boo or question his judgment, as a manager he was open to criticism, and as per most managers, he received it, both as national and club manager.

But to try and say that the majority of newcastle fans booed him and wanted him out is a joke, and anyone who buys into it are fools, well if the cap fits I suppose.

Wasn't Stokoe booed and sacked?

plumbs

it could well be true that the majority didn't boo him, i don't know. it would be fair to say that the majority didn't fully support and get behind him though.
when the chips were down, and just when he really needed the fans support most, they turned a blind eye and simply "melted away". that doesn't necessarily make them bad people or fans but in my opinion it does mean they aren't worthy to jump on any bandwagon afterwards.
they had their chance to get behind Bobby and they declined in silence. Not all, but many, who nowadays reminisce about "wor" Bobby Robson were the ones who once melted away.
The two faced "melts" really should be ashamed of themselves, they didn't deserve Bobby Robson.

I stopped reading at this point. They all say this, all 55,000 of them screaming geordies... Quite how 55k divides into 12k prior to Keegan/Hall/Sky i'm not sure :p[DOUBLEPOST=1378746707][/DOUBLEPOST]
Why are Newcastle fans on a Sunderland forum?

Obsessed with safc. You seen that @lalasafc thats just appeared? Infatuated.

Have you found your dummy yet marra?

One of my best mates is/was a photographer for the SBR foundation and spent a lot of time with him. Says he was class, really foul mouthed and funny behind closed doors though.

Hated John Hall and Shepherd, and even better... absolutely despised Joey Barton as well. :)

Seen Joey Jones at the Roker a couple of years ago, he was mint, really lovely bloke!

mt sentiments exactly where he should be kept.

Why should 6th (It was actually fifth) be acceptable if you have finished fourth and then third the two seasons previous? This was coming on the back of a summer where our our signing was a free transfer with a dodgy past.

You're supposed to progress, not regress.

The opportunity was there to kick on from those two top-four finishes but it was pathetically squandered.

One of the best managers ever.

Up their with Clough, Ferguson, Paisley

The mags can get fucked, they forced him out of the club and replaced him with Souness.
