aye mate, that song about him pissing himself was really respectful.

Some of you lot are eery bit as bad as them lot for rewriting history.
And hear comes the mackem self loather, nee one is saying we didnt sing it mate i sung it and would sing it again if he was the mags manager tomorrow. Still respected him for what he did in the game, when your manager of your rivals your fair game.

They booed him at the Fulham game in his last season.

They booed him in 1982 when he correctly ended Keegan's England career.[DOUBLEPOST=1378629996][/DOUBLEPOST]
Some of the comment on here relating to Robson are Not the same as the man I met at a dinner a few years ago at the Ramside.. Sullen, moody, rude, bad tempered and couldn't be bothered are my recollections of Robson, although I have only met him the once...

Joey Jone's (Ex Liverpool) on the other hand, who was a guest speaker, was top notch..polite, inquisitive and a great listener too.

Robson,,,,Myth

I've heard that a few times. John Kelter, a Newcastle fan who did the book on Jimmy Thorpe(the Sunderland keeper who died in the 30s) told me that he'd met Robson a few times and he would never so much as give anyone an autograph.

Seems to me if the Jawdee Nation (who's memory lets them down quiet a lot) have suddenly rallied behind Robson and only look at the good bits of his personna, Its very unlikely they would wish to call him now that hes dead...its just a shame that the Jawdee Nation has a long term medical problem with their memories of a bloke from county Durham.

I didn't want to use the word Bullshit...its used too often

They are reknowned for rewriting history. They hounded him out - the majority. We are talking about here... Booing his teams & slating his management.

They are pained to admit to it now & instead act like they worshipped him.

That statue is a joke. As much a joke as the belief that he supported NUFC as a boy (28 pages...)

Im sure Bellemys book touches on their treatment of SBR

They were flying under him.

However he couldn't control Bellamy, Dyer, Jenas, Bramble, Bernard, Robert etc.. But to be fair to him, I don't even think Fergie could have.

He brought Porto to Roker Park for a friendly because he was a Mackem and he spoke about how he was from Durham and SAFC had a great history yadda, yadda
I heard a tale that involved that exact game. It came from a lad I worked with whose father used to be in charge of all the turnstiles at Roker or something along those lines apparently. It wasn't complimentary but I shall keep it too myself.

Don't believe yer.

One of my best mates is/was a photographer for the SBR foundation and spent a lot of time with him. Says he was class, really foul mouthed and funny behind closed doors though.

Hated John Hall and Shepherd, and even better... absolutely despised Joey Barton as well. :)

Seen Joey Jones at the Roker a couple of years ago, he was mint, really lovely bloke!

Mackem self loather? give yer head a shake man.

I wouldn't claim that our fans treated him with respect though, as some on this thread have.[DOUBLEPOST=1378644042][/DOUBLEPOST]
Almost as respectful as Roy Keane wanking his dog, is this the type of respect you mean mate?

About as respectful as that, aye.

If I remember wasn't Billy Elliott was given the manager's job at Roker but told it was only for that season because Robson had agreed to join from Ipswich. In the meantime England came calling - Robson took the national job and Elliott still got the bullet. Or was that the tablets that I was taking at the time?

Nah! Robson was offered the job twice - the first time at Ipswich he wouldn't break his contract and made it clear. The second time he wasn't working and living at Esh Village, Cowie offered him the job and he set off to meet Cowie by the time he got to Cowies who lived near Lanchester (4 miles away) he'd changed his mind and turned us down.

Pit yaker werent he. I do love how they rewrite history like, a fair few hounded him out without a doubt.[DOUBLEPOST=1378579928][/DOUBLEPOST]
I remember a few mags i know at the time brought up his three man subs as a sign he had lost it and he needed booting.

Let's be honest. He was a Durham lad who followed Newcastle, and most on here aren't happy with Durham lads who follow those ***** - including me.

But, he was a cracking fella.

There was a post earlier about favourite players who didn't play for Sunderland. Beardsley came to my mind. Once bumped into him in the metro centre with me Sunderland pin badge on. Was talking to him for 15 minutes and what a spot on lad. And every article you read about Beardsley all commentators and ex-pros said the same thing - played the game as it should be played - not one for the limelight just loved football.

Some times you gotta give credit where it's due and people like Bobby Robson and Peter Beardsley were/are spot on lads and a credit to the game - we could do with more like. Unlike Shearer who loved his hometown club that much that he insisted on being the highest paid player at the club - the wanker. Most of us, genuine football fans who love their club, would play for Sunderland or Newcastle for nowt.
