He made barely any money out the sale club in real terms - enabling Drumaville to invest in playing staff.

While he was chairman even by just guaranteeing money he was risking nearly all he worked for - not many of us can say that!

He was only guilty of not being filthy rich which is what a chairman needed to be by the time he left. Can't believe some people can be so thick as to have ridiculous views as above.

Agree with that.

His heart was in the right place at Sunderland as he really did love the club, however as times moved on and clubs got richer, we began to lag behind so a new and richer investor had to be found, and along came SNQ :)

Some people have short memories. Yes Roker was a hole and yes we needed a new stadium. With the grants on offer, anyone in their right mind would have taken the oppotunity to build the new stadium. Had he invested a little we would have had the foundations to be a far more powerful institution but all he was interested in was increasing the value of his property for no personal outlay and selling it on for a profit. While other teams were using the new money in football to at least try to be succesful, he denied succesive managers the funds to have any sort of chance to do so. Some people on here clearly don't remember that but see the Murray gates and think he must have been some guy. Our history goes back more than ten years.

Spot on. The 15 and 19 point seasons still echo around football and players like that cunt at Spurs who wouldn't come to us in an earthquake, well that is the reason why

How much (if any) of the cost of the stadium did he actually fund?

iirc he floated the club on the stock Market raising £15m and secured another £15m in lottery/ football foundation our something funds by enduring the spec of the stadium would be up to international standard and support an England tournament bid. Absolutely the right approach IMHO. He just couldn't take us to the next level but he left solid foundations for the people who can.

Regardless of your opinion on Sir Bob, we wouldn't be where we are without him.

No Peter Reid
No Stadium/Academy of Light
No two 7th place finishes
No Niall Quinn
No hot youth prospects
No Roy Keane
No derby home win
No Steve Bruce
No Bent, Sessegnon, Gordon etc
No 10th placed finish
No Martin O'Neill

Utter bollocks........when we finished 7th twice we had the 7th biggest wage bill and spent around the same level on players..

Alas Reid spunked most of it............

How did he " increase the value of his property" when he never sold a single share...

It's the usual purposely vague accusations

I'm glad he's not our owner/chairman anymore.

So am I but remember in his time as a 'board member' we dragged ourselves from the third division to 7th in the Premier League. Some people will do well to remember that.

His final league position as chairman was 20th, not 7th though wasn't it?

I'm grateful he managed to build a new stadium, happy he didn't get his original wish though of a stadium in the middle of nowhere.

The stadium of light and AOL are his legacy and for those things alone, in hindsight, he did canny enough. It was time to go though, for sure.

I don't disagree. Just widen your horizons though, yes he made mistakes, he's only human but in the long run, he did a cracking job.

I see theyve eventually banned Headbanger then, and the other recent one which was clearly him anarl, Bobbi or summit

This guy must have had about 17 accounts or something

There's no need, I remember the Murray years well. I can look back on them a lot more fondly now, with the benefit of hindsight. Barring about 5 years, it wasn't the best like. He turned it around by getting the SOL built etc, then it all went wrong, he sold to the right people though.
