I watched it. I've liked Tchéky Karyo since he was in Missing and Baptiste. Cracking actor.
It's a bit thin on story but I'll stick with it.

I enjoyed both series of Kin. Not a patch on Love/Hate like.
Aye. Anyone still wandering around the area who wasn’t a local wad be picked up at gun point. The French feller and the black lad who has only been there a few days for starters.I watched the first episode and thought it was very poor.
I'm all for suspending belief but the police station incident would likely result in pretty much some kind of lockdown..
Well I might give it another go then.Thought the same at first, but the more I watched it , enjoyed it more , know what you mean, but will stick with it ......
Same here glad I stayed with it and Episode 2 starting to pull some threads together nicely. Brutal violence tho not my cup of teaThought the same at first, but the more I watched it , enjoyed it more , know what you mean, but will stick with it ......
I'd agree it's clichéd. I don't think I've ever seen a TV show about organised crime that isn't.I've only watched series 1 episode 1 of Kin, as I said, but thought it seemed quite cliched.
I’ll give it a swerve then![]()
I enjoyed it. It was quirky and daft but well acted. Lot of good people in it. The violence is a trifle too gory but I think they’re going for a Fargo vibe.
It’s not meant to be taken seriously. There are scenes where one of the characters has turned the main story into a stage musical and there are flash forwards to ‘actors’ playing the main characters in the main story, singing songs that reveal elements of the plot. You have to just go with it. I laughed.
edit: re the ‘cliched’ comments . I think that’s a stylistic choice. It’s ironic. Imo.

My cliched comments, if that's the ones you're referring to, are about Kin rather than Boat Story.
Shawshank redemption?Voiceovers have always been considered the cheap way of telling a story in the TV-fillum world. Apart from Double Indemnity I can’t think of a film that’s enhanced by them.
It was that flaky? The play part reminded me a little bit of The Singing Detective.
