Blur are far better than Oasis

Modern Life era Blur is very Kinksy & half of Oasis' songs sound like Revolver with a 90s fuzzbox.
Which Oasis song sounds anything like Eleanor Rigby?
Got To Get You Into My Life?
Yellow Submarine?
Good Day Sunshine?
For No One?
Taxman?
Love You To? Etc..

Haway man. Neither 90s band sound owt like either 60s band.
Apart from The Importance Of Being Idle which is Oasis sounding like...The Kinks!
Blur had a bit Kinks going on ,very local lyrics.Times, places, people . slow stuff, fast stuff, quite eclectic and very british

Let's face it, neither Blur or Oasis nor any of the "Britpop" bands are fit to lace to the boots of the proper British indie/alternative bands that came before them in the late 80's/early 90's.

And compared with the bands coming out of America at the same time they were around, Blur and Oasis were absolute trash.

Not a massive fan of either but I must have missed the much better versions you speak of .They seemed to sell a few records for being 2nd rate

All half decent ,some very good (The Cure ) some bordering on pop bands ,good fanbases too but they never got the numbers Oasis and Blur did .Be lucky to remember 5 singles between them if you take the Cure out and I was there hitting pubs and clubs every weekend

Other than The Cure, most of them never had the major label backing Blur and Oasis had, that's why. (Except The Wonder Stuff for one album just before they split up the first time).

The majors had seen that there was a whole scene in the UK where people were buying albums and singles by bands on indie labels and tried to replicate that by signing a couple of almost-sound-a-likes with a fraction of the talent, and pumped a shitload of money into promoting them while claiming it was this new thing, "Britpop" and manufacturing a feud between the two figureheads to raise interest.

Had TWS or PWEI or Cud or most of the bands on that list been signed to majors (earlier in TWS's case) and given the same level of publicity and production money, they would still be household names like Blur and Oasis IMO.

this is the fella who has thrown away better tunes than Noel ever wrote isn't it?

It's not hard, marra. You could do it yourself. Just pick any four of the letters G, A, C, D and E and write them down in a random order and repeat them for three and half minutes and you'll have equalled the peak of their songwriting skills.

They were niche, they didn't want to be big, some bordering on Crusties etc .Blur and Oasis started small and got noticed ,same playing field .They did all the work before the press luvvies started hanging onto them .Oasis and blur seemed to appeal to the normal dressed kids who didn't want to be different (hence a bigger crowd) .The lot you speak of did plenty albums ,not 1 so they were out there and did what they did .Cant see how a few extra quid will make their songs better and they certainly weren't going to conform and cut their dreads etc
