I think that you are. Brooks broke all the rules to make a point. My niece once asked me if I'd ever heard of it and she stared at me in wonder when I answered her question, 'How did that ever get made' with, 'It was the 70s'.
It's stupid but Brooks was stupid. Pretty much the dictionary definition of seminal when it comes to comedy.
