There really isnt any alternative. I like penalty shootouts- yes it can be a heartbreaking way to lose but it adds to the drama and excitement and for the neutral it can make a dull game a lot more interesting at the end. Unless you do something dull like tossing a coin there's not many other ways of settling it. Knowing Blatter he'll come up with some shite like awarding the win to whoever had the most possession or the most shots on target or some shite like that.
The only alternative I do like (and I think I'm about alone in it) is the american style shootouts. Aye, I know, Americanised crap and all that, but its the one American thing I'd be happy to see brought in. Not sure how long you get but your penalty taker gets the ball on the half way line and has something like 10 seconds to score. I like this better than traditional penalties because I think it actually involves a higher degree of skill- having to run from half way means you need a lot of composure, centre backs who just blast a penalty would struggle. It also means the ability of the keeper becomes a factor as they can do a lot to try and narrow the angle/ put the attacker off etc rather than simply having to guess where a penalty is going. On the whole though, I'm happy with penalties as they are
i think id prefer how it is is now but wouldnt mind too much with this. but the concept is basically the same as now is it not? so if hes against the current penalities then i dunno why he would support this
