Blatter wants to scrap penalty shootouts

There really isnt any alternative. I like penalty shootouts- yes it can be a heartbreaking way to lose but it adds to the drama and excitement and for the neutral it can make a dull game a lot more interesting at the end. Unless you do something dull like tossing a coin there's not many other ways of settling it. Knowing Blatter he'll come up with some shite like awarding the win to whoever had the most possession or the most shots on target or some shite like that.

The only alternative I do like (and I think I'm about alone in it) is the american style shootouts. Aye, I know, Americanised crap and all that, but its the one American thing I'd be happy to see brought in. Not sure how long you get but your penalty taker gets the ball on the half way line and has something like 10 seconds to score. I like this better than traditional penalties because I think it actually involves a higher degree of skill- having to run from half way means you need a lot of composure, centre backs who just blast a penalty would struggle. It also means the ability of the keeper becomes a factor as they can do a lot to try and narrow the angle/ put the attacker off etc rather than simply having to guess where a penalty is going. On the whole though, I'm happy with penalties as they are

i think id prefer how it is is now but wouldnt mind too much with this. but the concept is basically the same as now is it not? so if hes against the current penalities then i dunno why he would support this

soggy?

i love ice hockey as a sport but don't see how this approach would be any good for football, just a long drawn out version of a penalty, coming down to the same 1v1

It takes more skill though- a centre back can just blast a penalty but it is a lot harder when they have to get round the keeper, chip him or put it past him and he's coming out and narrowing the angle. Like I say, it means the skill of the keeper becomes more of a factor and its a better test of the composure and technical ability of the attacking player.

It makes you wonder: if England had had any clout whatsoever within FIFA over the past two decades, what would the game be like now?

One German side loses a penalty shootout and they're considering a rule change!

Ad an extra ball onto the pitch every 5 minutes until somebody scores.

who was it who was trying to claim neither Platini or Blatter were anti-english? I wish the pair of them would fuck off. Couldn't give a fuck how good a player Platini was.

Milk race on the centre circle between the captains with Blatter on his knees in the middle dressed in a hot dog suit, while 'Slow Hand' by the Pointer Sisters plays over the PA system.

Get the 2 captains to see who can do the most push-ups on the crossbar.

Crazy, no matter what thy come up with it will be one to one and will never be able to substitute a replay.

How about a relay race with egg and spoon section, sack race section and three legged section. Further suggestions would be welcomed.

Keep playing until someone scores, however long it may take. Or keep playing but every 5 minutes, both teams have to take a player off so that eventually you'd be left with a 5 a side game or similar, someone would have to be able to score then! But it'd be shit like, better just keeping penalties.

I love penalty shootouts and I love seeing players cry when missing one. Keep them I say.

What makes you think he's anti-english?

England have been losing penalty shoot outs once a year since 1990 and yet an English team beats the Germans and he's wanting a rule change? Ha'way man. Don't be so ignorant.

oh and where's your signature thing gone? ;)
