Bizarre VAR Disallowed Goal in Rennes game

Aye. The taker can't touch the ball until it's been touched by another player. Great decision.
Why the hell isn’t the ref blowing instantly? Shit management of the game
So the ref doesn't know the rules then?
He needs to be blowing instantly. Imagine if a player got injured in the “pointless” play
I’m fairly certain I’ve seen players score a goal after their penalty has rebounded off the post

That's one of the most fascinating things I've ever seen, mind. Absolutely amazing call from the referee.

So why didn't the ref blaa?
God alone knows.

Because it's close to a defender's head from the initial shot and after rebounding a defender swings a leg at it which is even closer.

This is another angle and there's no way the ref could be 100% sure to stop the attacking phase as look how close the rebound is. It's certainly not pointless play as it could have easily brushed the defender's boot for all the ref knows so he would stop a goal from even existing. It's the same rule and principle as offside playing on and stops legitimate goals from being disallowed or even being stopped before scoring.

Yes it’s an stupid principle imo which totally undermines the on field ref

*that said, I thought it was obvious it went straight from kicker - woodwork - kicker. If it wasn’t then I understand the hesitance, sadly

What a stupid rule that is. Get rid of it (or amend it so that freekicks off the bar can be touched by the person that took the freekick).

Agree - hardly like anyone is going to use that tactic as a ploy to confuse the opposition.
