He took 3 touches before his failed clearance was blocked by Firmino.

So in essence there were 4 touches, by Jones when all that was required was one, which imo would have been a straight froward clearance.

What goes through players heads?

As has been mentioned, speed of thought, it mustn't come instinctively so he has to take the touches to collect himself and decide what to do. Better players it comes naturally to, they know where the opposition and teammates are and play with a fluidity.

I thought Yedlin was decent when he played for some reason he was deemed shite by everyone on here not sure why

He's young and makes some mistakes to be sure... but he's also coachable, can cross, take on a defender, has elite speed and is far from a finished product... all positives that put him ahead of jones in my mind.

Sam knows he's young and will make a mistake now and again, but it has to be clear he can't likely be worse than jones at this point... Jones performance yesterday is the worst i've seen at wingback since Dossena.

Surely Yedders can do better.

Been poor lately but once again the SMB gans over the top. 'Should never play again' ffs.

For what it's worth I'd try Yedlin against Man Utd.

Agreed. He was alright if not particularly brilliant earlier on this season.

I think i would give yedlin a run now as well though tbh, especially in the home games

Bardsley was much better than him. I don't know why we replaced Bardo (who was a poor RB, but good sometimes) with this Championship clown. He offers nothing defensive or offensive.

Cheap buy on a free and not huge wages likely... figured we could "get by" with him... another cheap punt / hope for the best transfer in which we got exactly what we paid for - a player out of his depth for this league.

Bardsley seems to have turned into a player he never was. He's utter shite

Bardsley was steady with the odd goal thrown in..
Good in the battle. (Especially good on derby day).

Jones is woeful, turns his back on crosses.

Bardsley all day long.

Jones has never been good going forward, and he rarely even tries crosses let alone makes successful ones, but he had been pretty reliable defensively for much of the season. Given how good the defence is already at shipping goals in and given specifically how good his counterpart on the other side is at this skill (in fact, he caused the goal Jones didn't cause yesterday), it has made sense to play Jones because we didn't need two quick, bang-forward, mistake-prone FBs in at the same time. Last couple of matches, though BJ has not even kept up the defensive end of the bargain.

Probably is a good time, thus, to give DeAndre another chance. I predict, though we might score another goal here and there, we will concede just as many, if not more with Yedlin trying to figure out hiw to be a prem player along the way.

He cost us a point against Man City-Lost the ball with his elephant touch and lost Aguero for their goal. Then he cost us another 2 pts yesterday giving the ball away again. Theres 3pts lost just this week we really needed-how many points has he cost us so far and how many more if we keep playing him? Hes got to be dropped and the fact Jones stands out a mile as easily the worst player in a poor team says it all. He should never have been signed in the first place.
PVA likes this! (as it takes the focus off him)

Bardsley was shit and he wasn't steady. He also want great in a battle. I suppose he used to go in recklessly at times which shows he cared
Bardsley was a better defender than Jones, steadier than Jones, better going forward and he scored a few screamers winning us games/points. I was happy to replace Bardsley, as he wasn't than good, but to replace him with someone who offers absolutely nothing was awful business. I would take any other RB we had since promotion instead of Jones, maybe except Harford.

I must have missed this Bardsley. He's nee better than Jones.

.

Laughable to say that mostly. IIRC he was directly involved in 4 goals in the 5-1 game. As good as he looked in his last season here on occasions, it wasn't really a true reflection of the years inbetween arriving and leaving.

Yer wrong on this one rocky.

Bardsley was a better defender..and far better in the battle than Jones.

I cant get over his constant turning of back when a cross come in,Pva is the same, soft shites.
One thing i didnt think SA would accept.

:lol::lol::lol::lol:

Go for a lie down Rocky lad, you need it.

And I'm not saying Bardsley was amazing for us, he wasn't. But he offered a hell of a lot more than Billy f***ing Jones has.

To be fair Bardsley would have got his cross in or a shot (his crossing was poor but it wouldn't take him 10 seconds to sort his feet out allowing the defender to block).

Jones looked limited but descent defensively at the start of the season.. Bardsley was pretty good at stopping crosses but that was when defenders took on wingers vice-versa.. We now have a defensive situation where our wingers defend against the wingers and fullbacks on the fullbacks..bizarre to me!

You take that day.

Newcastle fans have moaned about how Bardsley was always up for the fight in the derby, ben arfa and co were sick of the sight of him.
