I have agreed to do a 200 mile, 24 hour bike ride in 8 weeks.

I'm as unfit as they come. I live in Hendon, where's the best place to go cycling in order to get some training in?

Thats 10 miles an hour for 20 hours that marra (got a maths o level me like)

you got no chance - take it from someone who does the C2C every year for the last 3 years and hates all 140 miles of it in 3 days

If you're not already at Lance Armstrong level now, you might be pushing it. especially with only 8 weeks training. Good luck though.

i understand that i'm probably going to die. Either whilst training, or by doing it. As long as i lose a couple of clem beforehand i'll be happy

you got more chance of doing the bike ride...

That kind of thing is perfectly do-able, but you will need to take it seriously and get a lot of miles into your legs beforehand, otherwise you will go into terminal cramp before you are halfway through - irrespective of how much determination you might have. 8 weeks is not a lot of time so you need to start doing the miles now, otherwise I wouldn't bother. Don't go overboard at the start or you will probably just knack yourself, but you would need to ramp it up pretty quickly if you want to have a chance of doing this. As well as regular riding through the week you will need to plan some longer rides at the weekend, because if all you do is say loads of 20 mile training rides it doesn't matter how fit you might be you will probably go to pieces on a longer ride. I'm sure you could find some appropriate training plans on t'interweb or whatever.

I'm considering doing a 250mile Audax event in a couple of months time myself, and apart from a couple of nagging injuries my biggest concern is whether I will be able to put enough time in on the bike between now & then to be able to do it justice. Cut-off time on this one is 27hrs, but I would hope to be closer to say 22. Everything is possible, but as ever - proper preparation prevents piss poor performance.

Not by someone starting from scratch

Very difficult. Not impossible, but probably unwise.

I was really just trying to say that it is possible for practically anyone to do stuff like this. But they have to want to (not just be persuaded by their mates in the pub) and it requires proper training & preparation - if you can't commit to that then don't do it.
