Biggest traveling support by any club in the country this season

That lot up the road won't believe this but at one stage in the 70s we were everyone's second favourite team. We were on MOTD more than David Coleman.

You were on, but not loads. In those days MOTD did feature odd games from the 2nd division. The notion that you were on loads is ludicrous. I recall going to a game of you against Aston Villa that was on MOTD. TBF you were close to promotion most seasons in the 70s but most of the time there were at least 3 if not 5 clubs in front of you.
Even we were limited at that time to the odd 30 seconds filmed clip rather than a TV broadcast.

Cobblers. Between 73-80 we were often the main match (there were only 2, possibly 3 games shown). Take our promotion season 79-80 (the one when the team at the top at Christmas ended up mid table with under 15k crowds, can't remember their name but they played in black & white), we were the top match 4 times. Before the match the cameras always panned from the coast round to Ripon Street then a throbbing Roker End. Not bad for a division 2 club. I suppose it helped if the commentator in the gantry was big SAFC fan Barry Davies.

You had one season in the top flight you bellend.

There is nothing better than turning up to an away game and finding thousands of fellow travellers there with you. Barcelona, Juventus, Milan, Marseille to name but a few. Oh and Blackpool would be nice as well. Enjoy your day.

:lol: There's a lot of bitterness showing on here these days. Born out of your own despair.

It feels like a lifetime ago but huge away followings weren't that uncommon. It may be a new thing for you but it's old hat for your older supporters.

Three sides of the grounds man.

Is this what you mean by 3 sides. A handful in the left stand, none in the main stand & most (not all) of the right stand.

Mags travel in great numbers also , and Leeds , manu, both Liverpool and Everton , but out of That bunch we have had some dire teams to follow over past 30/40 year yet still travel in great numbers

Nail on head - our record v all of them over the last few decades has been f***ing woeful

In the good old days when there wasn't the restriction on away support I went to games when there was 17000 and 20000 Newcastle supporters in attendance. I didn't go to the one game when the police estimated there was 24000 of us there. I've been to Tottenham in the cup when there was almost a repetition of Hillsborough.

Why not concentrate on enjoying your trip to Blackpool rather than trying to score petty points over us. If you really have a thing about away attendance give us the tickets and we'll turn up at your place in a few weeks. We'll be able to enjoy the 3rd tier experience for a change.

Tell me which games, provide the 'proof' and I'll prove you wrong.

It's like Peter Sutcliffe giving the police a bloody hammer to prove he didn't murder anyone

I've liked your post my mistake. Just going to unlike it.

To be quite honest, not bothered about any other club but my own. In whatever position or league we are in.

We are not one of the top clubs positional wise, but in my head and heart we are the number one team.

Other supporters and teams can think what they like, but why would you get wound up or ratty over another team, it's history or it's Supporters.

Good luck to everyone, the best team on the day will win if it's my team fantastic, if not we will get the next one.

Exactly, The more fans from other clubs read the numerous threads about attendances, The more likely they are to try and shoot us down. Still remember when we couldn't fill SOL in a semi final play off against Palarse.

SAFC Till I die, fcku the rest no matter how big or small. Couldn't care less

In total agreement fella,

Sunderland’s latest attendance was the third biggest in the land. They are averaging gates of 32,000 for the visit of teams such as Fleetwood, Walsall and Rochdale.

On New Year’s Day, a staggering 7,500 away fans will descend on Blackpool – the biggest travelling support of any side in the country this season.

Every club they have visited has pulled in its biggest crowd for the visit of the Black Cats, swelled by the masses from the North East.

That's on top of 46,000 for a home game in league 1, phenomenal when you think about it
Got a source for that info?

7,500 is great but by SAFC standards it isnt all that massive, which just shows how phenomenal our away support has been over the years.

Saying that, 7,500 away on NYD in league one is still ridiculous.
