Nah. Wrong club mate. It was Accrington Stanley.
You had one season in the top flight you bellend. The thing about Sunderland fans is that when we stop going we don't do anything else. We sit at home and shout at Stelling and his boys when it is going poor. When we start being better we start going to the match again. We keep that up and more of us want to go to away matches.
That lot up the road won't believe this but at one stage in the 70s we were everyone's second favourite team. We were on MOTD more than David Coleman.
There is nothing better than turning up to an away game and finding thousands of fellow travellers there with you. Barcelona, Juventus, Milan, Marseille to name but a few. Oh and Blackpool would be nice as well. Enjoy your day.Seething ^
Be quiet, the money men might be listeningBecause they realise how big our potential is. If we attract such attendances in league one, what numbers would we attract if we had a side like Man City?
I read it twice and I'm strugglingBit philosophical, but very nice nevertheless.
Goal goes in 80+ mins and it will be bedlamPitch invasion nailed on![]()
Look mate you are talking shite..... 17 k away following.... More like that's the total away support for the whole season ..... stay on your own board and sort your own issues out with an owner who detests everyone of you bellendsIn the good old days when there wasn't the restriction on away support I went to games when there was 17000 and 20000 Newcastle supporters in attendance. I didn't go to the one game when the police estimated there was 24000 of us there. I've been to Tottenham in the cup when there was almost a repetition of Hillsborough.
Why not concentrate on enjoying your trip to Blackpool rather than trying to score petty points over us. If you really have a thing about away attendance give us the tickets and we'll turn up at your place in a few weeks. We'll be able to enjoy the 3rd tier experience for a change.

It may be a new thing for you but it's old hat for your older supporters.Look mate you are talking shite..... 17 k away following.... That lot up the road won't believe this but at one stage in the 70s we were everyone's second favourite team. We were on MOTD more than David Coleman.Let me explain and I will type it slowly for you - I am not even talking about that season. I am talking about the time from 73 and our time in the 2nd division. Why would we have MOTD at Roker so many times? Why did they watch us away as well? I will say that the Cup win stirred people in the country so much because a side like us could beat the nighty Leeds United at Wembley. Even MoTD on Cup Final night came from our celebrations at the Park Lane Hotel in Piccadilly. The League match at Manchester United in the 74/75 season was Match of the Season on MoTD. We don't have to shout about it - we know it happened. We are not delusional. How do I know because I was Assistant Secretary at Sunderland AFC from 1970 to 1977. The people at St James's Park at the time were Russell Cushing (only Secretary at the time) and Alistair Garvie (Asst Secretary). They were both very well respected and we always enjoyed each other's company when we had the chance.
Goes off numbers not gross weight marraThey were both very well respected and we always enjoyed each other's company when we had the chance.

You were on, but not loads. In those days MOTD did feature odd games from the 2nd division. The notion that you were on loads is ludicrous. I recall going to a game of you against Aston Villa that was on MOTD. TBF you were close to promotion most seasons in the 70s but most of the time there were at least 3 if not 5 clubs in front of you.
Even we were limited at that time to the odd 30 seconds filmed clip rather than a TV broadcast.

Hate to break it to you, but the folks in striped shirts round 3 sides of the ground were WBA. Easy enough to get confused I suppose. If you're a thick Mag.It feels like a lifetime ago but huge away followings weren't that uncommon. It may be a new thing for you but it's old hat for your older supporters.
