Big match revisited

SIR Six Ina Row

Goalkeeper
Did anyone see the game this morning F A Cup Everton v Telford
Peter Reid being injured and had to be carried off at the end of the game on piggie back with a blanket around him. How times have changed

Defo, back in 1967, a teenaged Bobby Kerr broke his leg in an accidental clash with Norman 'bites yer leg' Hunter and left the pitch under his own steam ... hopping on his undamaged leg. None of this slapping the turf business whilst waiting for the last rites.

I remember that game. The mind may be boggling but I think Telford beat Darlo in the round previous, so it sticks in my mind.

They all use to play with broken toes and allsorts back then for the "win" bonus. This is why you could get a squad of 13 more or less making up the whole seasons squad. Quite crazy when you think about it.

Feral atmosphere that day. Telford kicked anything that moved.

Watched it the other week with Spurs v Sunderland from 1978 (plot spoiler, we won). Great stuff. Scarves worn around the wrist, meaty challenges, lots of bog rolls thrown, and no-one bats an eye when some scallywags run on the pitch after the final whistle to commiserate with the spuds.

I love watching The Big Match Revisited. The goalkeeper being able to pick up a back pass and subsequently hoofing it down the field looks so odd now.
