Big Match Revisited today

Wist Ham v Villa, FA Cup 79/80. Exquisite skills from Brooking & Devonshire, backed up by great endeavour from two sides full of class players. Looked possible was going to be all fart, nee shite, from the 'ammers until Ray Stewart slammed home a late pen in his customary style to settle it. Packed stadium was bouncing and good noise from the Villa section. Loved the footy and matchdays then - none of this sterile, POMO bullshite.

It was great viewing. What a celebration from West Ham for that penalty. Those days are gone unfortunately, ground would be half full for a cup QF nowadays, and full of people politely clapping.

Best BMR for me is the Derby v Fulham one, circa 83.

Wrexham v Sunderland pretty good too - carnage in the away end at the end
I went to the Wrexham game - what a rollercoaster of emotions. Our fans were brilliant that day. Eric Gates in his pomp for Ipswich Town has featured on BMR lately. His close control, speed of turn, lay-offs and shooting skills were class. Happily we were able to see plenty of that at Roker & SJP 😜.

How the fuck WHU failed to get of division 2 that season with that team is a mystery.

Yes, they had a good squad & beat us at the Boleyn. We sealed one of the promotion spots that season, so it matters not to me that they didn't go up. They were FA Cup winners & League Cup QF that season. We went unbeaten at home. Good memories 👍.
