"Bids lodged for players"

We know he's not really the kind of player to set the pulse racing but the new reality is that we won't be investing a great deal on players this summer and a player like Naismith for nowt might be the best business we do this summer. He works hard, never hides and is decent enough in the roles he plays.
Oh, but he played for Everton, so must be shite according to the football experts. How many hat tricks have SAFC players scored against Chelsea/

What you need is both though......Naismith isn't a central striker but (imo) he's a clever player and links forward play up very well.....he is probably exactly what you'd need alongside a player like Abraham.....with Watmore on the other flank that's a no cost solution.

You'll be banging a different drum by the years end Rocky when Naisy has become a firm fans favourite.

You're right in that Abraham is more of a poacher and not a creative player. But there is better than Naismith available imo, even from Norwich. I rate Hoolahan over Naismith in the role you mentioned.

Your premise was that Naismith was worth £35k per week because he could play several positions, my point was that he's only worth any salary if he is the best we can get for his best position.

Incidentally, I have no problem with Naismith as a player or a person. I live on Merseyside and my son is an Evertonian. Naismith seems like someone who appreciates that he is fortunate to be a professional footballer and gives something back via charitable donations.

A two years contract for the same value as Gibson's reduced terms would seem fair.

Thing is though he has two years at £50k already on the table. If he's told he won't be playing at Norwich they'll still have to play him what's in his contract.......my hope would be that a longer contract on reduced terms and (all things being equal) regular football would appeal more to him than sitting on his arse......but we have to be realistic, he's not going to give up £50k/week for £20k or so. Couldn't see it happening for less than £30k but over three years.

We definitely need some experienced heads to mix alongside the youngsters but we'll probably end up with some of our current ones doing that role by default. If he's on massive wages I'd rather get a younger player with a future.

Naismith would do well in the right formation, usually a good link from midfield to striker, I'd be keen for that to happen if it was possible.
Naismith to Borini as FBs got a bit of pace to make up for Naismiths lack of it. Be like a poor mans Henry/Bergkamp, Lineker/Beadesley, Rush/Dalglish partnership. Which is what Phillips/Hutchison would've been if Murray had done the obvious.
Knowing SAFC we'll probably sign an actual Fat Bastard who's even older than slower than Naismith......ala Danny Graham. What's Latchford doing these days?

But Hoolahan isn't available for nowt and will also be on decent wages......a sizeable fee PLUS the wages would make him much more expensive than Naismith over the contract length......and that's ultimately how we have to judge a signing.....what does the player cost all in.

Agreed.
Could we get Norwich to subsidise his wages or are we the only idiots that do that?

Dubious - looking at the current wages, adding in relegation clauses, and assuming that the aim will be to bring in players at less than 50% of the current average pay, I'd be thinking lower league targets who could possibly step up.
Am sick of having a team full over finished, over-paid injury prone wankers like. Can the bloke not actually do some f***ing scouting instead of buying players based on the fact that they are available. No wonder we are so shit, we are a team of players just thrown together and hope something clicks, no thought process whatsoever. f***ing crap.

But Naismith is neither over the hill, or injury prone

He's the exact type of signing we need to move away from.

I'd argue that in a period of transition you need some players who will normally give you a consistent level of performance. I fully agree that in an ideal world we sign players like Delle Ali, Chris Smalling, Jamie Vardy etc when they're plying their trade in the lower leagues but until we get a really competent scouting network in place we need to make do and mend.

Gawd - Smalling is rotten

The biggest failing without a shadow of a doubt during Short's ownership.

We're constantly mending. It's a big fat no from me.
He's the exact opposite of what we should be looking for.

Leave it out mate your getting past desperate now. We won't be buying Naismith anytime soon whether Moyes stays or goes. We couldn't afford his wages in the premier league and he hardly helped Norwich in their promotion push. Him and the other panic buys are why Neil got sacked. Anyway regardless as soon as Short agrees compo Moyes is offski imo.
