"Bids lodged for players"

Norwich have underperformed this season and I'd imagine the reaction of fans towards players is much like it is on here.

If we're seriously stuck with Moyes, then he needs to really show he can think outside the box. Signing Naismith would seriously damage an already frail fanbase.

That doesn't surprise me. We've got to remember than Moyes signed Kevin Kilbane from us, what a hiddeous player he was.

Turned him into a tv presenter though!

That's two or three weeks of close season when a manager is looking at targets and planning his squad.

Ok. Massive negative impact. Poor Dick. No wonder he was shite

So 1 manager in 10 years has missed a pre season and another possibly missed 2-3 weeks of close season before signing a new deal at least a month before pre season

Yep, makes a change having a manager have a full pre season

Do you think he'd be a good signing?

In an ideal world Short sells, Moyes leaves and we start on an upward trajectory with new owners and investment. However, that seems a bit fanciful atm so any suggestions have to be based in the reality as it stands. We obviously need to cut the wage bill OVERALL but at the same time we can't put out a team on £10k/week realistically and expect anything other than a season of struggle so we need an astute combination of seasoned pros, promising youngsters and some decent loans. Given that Naismith can play in four positions and is genuinely a player who never hides I'd argue that for no fee he'd have to be a player we should consider......the issue is obviously his wage demands, but he won't get what he's on at Norwich anywhere else so he either stays there or moves for a longer contract.

He can only play one position at a time though

In what's likely to be a fairly thin squad we'd need a few versatile players.

No. Moyse didn't have one either, so, as I said two years.

Would rather get Tammy Abraham in on a loan deal from Chelsea.

I respect your opinion mate but personally I'd judge every signing on its merits.....i.e. I was totally against the Gibson signing but I wouldn't be against signing Naismith.

No. Mouse didn't have one either, so, as I said two years.

So 2 in 10 years and one of them missed a whole 11 days (from last game of the season to new contract being announced). Assuming he didn't just completely u-turn on the day he signed the new deal and had at least known for a day or two we are looking at a week immediately following the last game of the season

You also said 'at least 2 years'

What you need is both though......Naismith isn't a central striker but (imo) he's a clever player and links forward play up very well.....he is probably exactly what you'd need alongside a player like Abraham.....with Watmore on the other flank that's a no cost solution.

f***ing Naismith man  He's the type of signing we need to move away from.

Also the star player comment :lol::lol:

Bugger me bandy

You'll be banging a different drum by the years end Rocky when Naisy has become a firm fans favourite.

A full close season is important for a manager. The last two close seasons we haven't had a manager appointed for all of it so their planning will be affected. So hopefully it will mean better planning. Now, if you disagree, sorry, but I have said What I meant

I very much doubt that

What makes no sense to me, is someone who doesn't support Sunderland coming on this board to defend every decision Moyes makes, knowing fine well that the fans who really actually care about the club want him out.

I'm surprised people have put up with you for as long as they have done.

Naismith is a very average, limited player. I accept we won't be able to attract top players next season but I'd like to think we can be more creative in the transfer market than having to rely on yet anothef ex Everton player who is almost past it.
Defend what decision - it is Alfred's speculation.

And if you cannot see the difference between Naismith and the likes of Pienaar and Lescott then there must be something wrong with you.

We know he's not really the kind of player to set the pulse racing but the new reality is that we won't be investing a great deal on players this summer and a player like Naismith for nowt might be the best business we do this summer. He works hard, never hides and is decent enough in the roles he plays.

Your premise was that Naismith was worth £35k per week because he could play several positions, my point was that he's only worth any salary if he is the best we can get for his best position.

Incidentally, I have no problem with Naismith as a player or a person. I live on Merseyside and my son is an Evertonian. Naismith seems like someone who appreciates that he is fortunate to be a professional footballer and gives something back via charitable donations.

A two years contract for the same value as Gibson's reduced terms would seem fair.
