Best way to sell a car

I doubt they’ll be offering over the odds to secure stock these days.

But aye, sell privately for most money but also most hassle. If you don’t want hassle get a quote from Motorway, Cazmo, WBAC, dealer etc.

Never had any hassle at all selling cars, although I’ve not done it for quite sometime now.

Motorway is the best starting point, costs nothing and you can set a reserve.
wbac is the quickest but normally the lowest.

car prices are crazy at the moment and motorway do offer to dealers but rather than autotrader where you could set the price too low and sell yourself short, motorway leave the cars to ‘soak’ for the day and therefore you can’t undersell with the reserve. But trade prices will be lower than selling yourself if you can be bothered with the hassle

Motorway are regularly going 750 above ‘book‘ trade prices

facebook and gumtree are free but again you may undersell, always add 500 to what you think you can always come down.

autotrader is expensive and will sell to the same people as gumtree and Facebook

Depends on what you’re selling and the route you take. Put it on Autotrader or eBay and you’re usually ok. Put it on marketplace or Gumtree and you’re asking for bother (bother = time wasters and tyre kickers).

Paint it pink and advertise it so that it only attracts women...they will buy any old shit if it's a nice girly colour.

A good tip if you get interest is to get them to come to look at car at the same time. 👍

Because I thought I was getting a good deal but felt a bit robbed?
Not having a pop but that’s why you’d get a WBAC quote and scout Autotrader for similar cars to judge its worth.

Plus what it’s worth to a trader and what is worth to a punter are two very different prices.

Motorway is essentially an auction so I’m sure you’ll have got a fair price for it. Motorway are just a service, not the buyer.

Private sales are always higher than dealership, what car have you got anyway?
Sold a 2009 Mazda 3 on Motorway for £2700 and next day the garage had it on sale for £5600, would never deal with them again so would sell privately.
Motorway is always traders looking to make a profit usually put your best bid in for it and go from there.

Just checked my 2017 st line focus on motorway. Offering just under 10 grand. Googled how much similar are going for with the same mileage and it's around 1500 more. I paid just under 12 grand nearly 3 year ago and it's nearly the same price. Mental.

Used Arnold Clark after Motorway's auction didn't meet my reserve. Got just under £800 more from them than the reserve on I'd put on Motorway.

Had outstanding finance on the car I sold but just took them my settlement figure and they paid it off and paid me the difference.

This is my advice, get a few quotes from a few of them and take the one that works best.

Get your AC and WBAC valuations first then set that as your reserve on Motorway.

Be honest with the condition etc. otherwise you’ll run into problems

Sold two cars to Motorpoint in Birtley recently - got far and away the best price for them both than anywhere else that I’d tried - all done with no fuss as well - they give you what they quote with no add ons

Looking at selling our old car too. Only tried two places so far to sniff around and see what the prices are like

Motorway = £5400
WBAC = £4600

Quite a difference in what they both offered, haven't tried any others yet but just want rid and don't want to use the traditional route and deal with folk coming round and kicking tyres
The online offers for WBAC bear no relation to what they offer face to face

The garage will have done things like servicing, cleaning and putting a warranty on it and they have to make a profit so they can pay their staff and other expenses after that.
