Best way to sell a car

What is the best way to sell you car these days ('best' = obtain the most money)?

Looking at upgrading the Fiesta to a small SUV (see separate thread) and wondering whether it's best to sell the Fiesta on a stand alone deal or use it as a part-exchange for the next car? Will I get less for it if I use it as part-exchange at a Carshop, EvansHalshaw, etc. type place.

I've seen adverts for motorway.co.uk which looks like an online auction for car dealerships and obtained a rough figure from webuyanycar of £5,500.

Sold my car to CAZOO, got the best offer from them. £2000 more than anybody else. Money in bank before left the showroom. Easy.

I doubt they’ll be offering over the odds to secure stock these days.

But aye, sell privately for most money but also most hassle. If you don’t want hassle get a quote from Motorway, Cazmo, WBAC, dealer etc.

Looking at selling our old car too. Only tried two places so far to sniff around and see what the prices are like

Motorway = £5400
WBAC = £4600

Quite a difference in what they both offered, haven't tried any others yet but just want rid and don't want to use the traditional route and deal with folk coming round and kicking tyres

Sold mine just before Xmas through Motorway. Submitted the ad on Tuesday, in auction Wednesday, paid for and picked up Friday morning. Easiest car sale I've ever had 👍

That'll be the reserve though on Motorway, is it not?

Not necessarily true. I had no sniffs for mine privately and sold it through Motorway for a bit more than I thought it was worth.

Arnold Clark at Birtley was good for 2 of ours, online quote and paid exactly that after a brief inspection.

At the time they offered more than WBAC, the Toyota Dealership we were buying the replacement from and Vertu.

Edit….just read you’re not local but imagine the format is the same at all their branches

I honestly don't know mate, that's just the price that popped up, not too sure how they do it.
Sounds like Motorway worked for you though, were they easy enough to deal with?
I know it was only a few weeks ago but due to other things going on it was a bit of a blur selling it so this is what I can remember.
The price you've seen is an estimate, then after submitting pics and other details a reserve is set then it goes in the auction. I got approx £1.5k above the reserve, that was on a £20k ish car tho.
It was a simple a transaction, bloke turned up with trailer, had a quick look around the car checked V5 etc, phoned the boss, boss spoke to me, money transferred straight away and that was it all done in 20 mins

I was going to go there if I'd had no success with Motorway, they offered more than WBAC

Another shout for one close by, Bridge End Motors, CLS, canny lads.. Got our 14 Plate Peugeot in Oct 19, no issues at all post sale, now 8/9 years old but still going, with only 43k on the clock (was Mobility Car)

Sold a 2009 Mazda 3 on Motorway for £2700 and next day the garage had it on sale for £5600, would never deal with them again so would sell privately.
