Best Keyboardist?

Nail on head here.

Most people think good is virtuoso. Playing solos.

It should be how you contribute to the song.

Sometimes that means not playing at all.

Haway man. Anyone can not play keyboards on a song. That doesn't make them great. ;)

They have to know when and when not to play, granted, but to be truly "the best" they should be able to do the virtuoso stuff when necessary.

It's all well and good being able to play something subtle and easy to play that fits with the song, but if they can't play the difficult stuff as well then they aren't "the best" keyboardist. That label would go to someone that can play the subtle and easy stuff when the song needs it but also be able to pull off the most difficult stuff too when the song needs that.

That perfectly describes Jon Lord!
